Palin's religion
from page 8 of the Alaska Assemblies of God newsletter Alaska Update (Summer 2008)

... The opening night banquet of the 2008 Alaska District Council was honored to have Governor Sarah Palin address the delegates and guests. pastor at Wasilla Assembly of God, along with Pastor Mike Rose of Juneau Christian Center, where Palin presently attends church when in Juneau, laid hands on the Governor and led the Council in prayer ...

2. It makes me very uncomfortable if she plans to inject said religion into
her job as veep. (Which she will since she is anti-choice and pro-Creationism-as-Science) :puke:

4. My 'winger Son just called me about this.
He is one of those long-haired racist, jingoistic, homophobes.

And he is freaked at the idea of a Pentecostal being VP.

"Those fuckers are crazy, Dad."

7. This may be more destructive than a Mormon on the ticket to their interests
Pentecost is more visually explosive than anything a Mormon might do. Many people are simply not familiar with any religions or sects outside their own. If speaking in tongues or any other of the channeling of the Holy Spirit practices of this church hit the media its going to really set some people on edge.

8. IMO most of the people that go to Assembly of God meeting are faking it.
My Mother played the piano at the A O G church in my home town and she loved doing it. She was a great Mother, but not really religious.

I watched several people speak in tongues, but it looked put on to me. It was a prestige thing to have done it. My Mother never did. However, she would have loved me being a Preacher with her playing the piano. One of the preachers was a woman about my age and mom tried to push me in that direction.

9. IMO, they all are.
It's been studied among speakers of various languages.

The output is always in accord with the speaker's native language--intonation, set of consonants and vowels and how they fit together, phrase length, etc., etc. But they're nonsense: There's no structure, no units that repeat that have any relation to any meaning that can be discerned.

In most cases, there's nobody to interpret the speech; when there is, until order's established there are competing, mutually contradictory "interpretations" offered. This, versus Paul's admonition that the Spirit is in subjection to the prophets, and when one speaks in tongues, it should only be done if there is one to interpret to avoid pride and vanity and so as to make the 'prophesying' useful.

On the other hand, I've known Pentecostals. Most never spoke in tongues, etc., etc., and didn't do the ecstatic fit thing. They were just normal people, by and large. I've met more goofball UCCers than Mormons or Pentecostals, to be honest, but most of them were also nice people.

10. Well, there's Assemblies of God and there's Assemblies of God.
It really depends on the church, the pastor, and her personal walk. Some are full-on crazy, while others are more mainstream.

I'm more worried about how she's against abortion, even in the case of incest or rape. That's f'd up.
