So, Saying Astrology/Seances Are BS On DU Is OK, But Knocking Religion Is Not?
Edited on Fri Nov-07-08 09:18 PM by stopbush
What's the diff? There's no proof that any of it is true and lots of evidence that it's all a bunch of made up crap.

But for some reason - especially at DU it would seem, it's OK to chuckle at Nancy Reagan holding a seance to contact the spirit world, but praying to the various Christian/Jewish whatever god spirits is to be respected?

Likewise, it's OK to make fun of astrology as a guide to one's life, but believing a guy came back from the dead and that his invisible spirit is still alive and keeping tabs on every single being on earth's every waking and sleeping thought is a belief that must be respected.

Why? Because more people believe one than the other?

Make fun of astrology, and we all have a chuckle. Make fun of Xianity and you're a hateful bigot.

Go figure.

3. Of Course some of us make fun of Religion. Religion deserves it.
I wonder if the Bible People even really know how the Bible came about and the story of Jesus and the other things that were stolen from ancient texts..
To actually believe it...well...I don't know what to say... ???

13. I think the OP is talking about
the reaction to the comments. Why no cries of bigotry for astrology (or Mormonism or Scientology for that matter) but many cries of bigotry when Christianity is the target? Both have equal amounts of proof.

6. for that matter Obama was saying he wouldn't talk to dead Presidents
yet that he's a Christian who prays.

I don't expect an agnostic or atheist leader in my lifetime.

7. Gets even funnier than that.
Even some of the people who get up in arms about Christian "persecution" have engaged in trashing what THEY deem are the weird religions ("cults") such as Scientology or Mormonism. Double standards abound.

9. I agree that there are similarities between the two, but...
has anyone ever killed in the name of astrology?

10. I don't know. Perhaps Nancy's astrologer advised Reagan on when to invade Grenada,
in which case it could be said that people were killed as the result of belief in astrology, if not in the name of astrology.

11. There's plenty of religious bashing on DU, there's just not that many astrology defenders.
Don't be naive. DU is a free for all flame fest when it comes to faith, and especially when it comes to race and other things that actually exist which people try to dismiss.

It seems you're offended that some people defend their beliefs. In which case: grow a sack already.

14. I find two things interesting:
1. That the same people who cry bigotry about negative Chrisianity comments are the same who mock astrology, Mormonism, and Scientology.

2. Those that cry bigotry when Chrisianity is commented on but not when astrology is commented on are not coming into this thread to defend themselves. Curiouser and curiouser.
