Destroying life to save life
A question occurred to me tonight when I heard a clip of Kommander KooKooBananas (that's GW for those who don't watch the Simpsons) use this rational for opposing stem cell research and therapeutic cloning.

He said, as we've all heard before, that our tax dollars should not be spent on science that destroyers life in order to save life.

Wouldn't that same moral argument apply to all the research done to develop every single weapons system?

These are technologies designed to kill some people in order to protect others.

I pose this question here because I think it's clear he is basing this bit of moral reasoning on his religious belief. I think it is an example of his bad and Dangerous theology.

I recognize there are ethical questions to be addressed in this (as with the use of any technology but perhaps more clearly with this technology) but this line of reasoning should be dead on arrival, I mean even some of the fundamental xians in congress are starting to wake up to the hypocrisy of supporting a death penalty while opposing abortion using a similar argument to what KKB is trying to use against stem cell research and similar areas of research.

1. Go ahead, troublemaker
That's right. You just keep being intelligent - sentient, even - and thoughtful and rational and logical and thoughtful and pretty soon you'll have screwed everything up.

Happy?

2. The sentence is an odd one coming from the Commander,
given that he seems to believe that one can free Iraqis by killing them.

3. Yes, to be pro-life SHOULD include opposition to war and the death penalty

as well as to abortion and euthanasia, and to stem cell research that kills embryonic human beings.

George's "theology" seems to consist of "what I want and what my pals want is good."

4. What is even more fun
is to have the concept, held, I believe, by Buddhists and I know by Native Americans, that all beings are aware and that they should be treated in a caring manner. In the Lakota tradition, everything is sacred, and things are done for "all my relations", meaning all sentient beings. In a mystical sense, all things have soul, have breath, even the rocks.

The mindset of those who would kill to save lives, in whatever fashion, is based upon a concept that is fear based and works from a position of lack rather than love based and abundance.

So what does one do with those people in power making these sort of decisions? One starts by changing onesself, finding Peace within, and forgiving those whose path is not like their own. To many, this may sound silly and not productive, but I truly believe that by denying the energy of hate and fear to these people, their power will be reduced-maybe not immediately, but in time. Fear and loathing will not make this transition to sanity any shorter, and will only, in the end, be hurtful of the person doing the fear and loathing.
