Christian Group Files Suit to Burn Library Book
http://www.drudge.com/news/121805/christian-group-files-suit-burn-library

After fighting for the removal of the book Baby Be-Bop from a West Bend, Wisc., library, the Christian Civil Liberties Union and three other plaintiffs have sued over the book, seeking "the right to publicly burn or destroy by another means" the book and asking for $120,000 in damages because they were exposed to it in a library display.

18. Drudge ReTORT
is Rogers Cadenhead's anti-Drudge site. IOW, it's okay to follow the link, Drudge won't get a dime or a hit count from it.

5. Here's a link to the American Library Association's story
on the same subject:

I wouldn't be surprised if "Baby Be-Bop" joined "Huckleberry Finn" and "Catcher in the Rye" as must-read books for young adults. That would be a great outcome!

6. and they claim we're the nutcases ...
why don't they just sue because they were exposed to any book other than their own version of the bible?

I'm reminded of something I saw on nudism ... a group went to court because they were "offended" at a nude beach ... the judge essentially threw it out because the filers were idiots ... they had to go well out of their way and around all kinds of obstacles to be "offended" ...

For these types, a library would be offensive ... because it had more than just 1000s of copies of one version of the bible ...

7. The Christian Civil Liberties Union?
That's got to be an oxymoron (oxymoran?). At least in this case.

15. Maybe I'm in a pissy mood today
but I say lets have a Bible bonfire. And dance naked around it while telling dirty Jesus jokes.

That pack of self important assholes needs to sit the fuck down and shut the fuck up.

CCLU. Bullshit. If they're not stealing pop culture for profit they're ripping off legitimate organizations to fill their pockets.

17. This story is so comically over the top
You've got 4 geriatrics complaining about a YA title and want permission to burn it. Plus, they want $120,000 to salve their distress from being exposed to the book. And they want the mayor to resign. Aaaaaand they want the DA to convene a grand jury to find the book "obscene", in the hope that anyone stocking it can be charged with a hate crime.

Meanwhile, the city council has denied reappointment for 4 library trustees for having come to the "wrong" decision in the matter.

And two new interest groups, West Bend Citizens for Safe Libraries and West Bend Parents for Free Speech were born, armed with competing lists of public signatures.

Someone get the Coen brothers on the phone. This is hot stuff, you betcha.

22. If they want to burn this book
they should buy their own copy and burn it, not one that belongs to someone else. Better yet, buy a couple of thousand copies and burn them all! I'm sure the publisher and the author won't mind a bit. Seriously, where do people like this get off. Who gives them the right, or any of us for that matter, to get through life without encountering something or someone who offends us. I live in Milwaukee and we have our share of nutballs, but the suburbs are inhabited by a whole different breed. Maybe it's something in the water.

23. I never heard of this book before, so I clicked the link.
Sheesh, give me a break a young gay man is the hero of this book. What's the big deal? I guess they believe that they or their children will catch "TEH GAY." How dare an author write about anything besides heterosexuality? It's not as if the thousands of depictions of heterosexuality in the media has turned homosexuals straight, either.
