Heartening.
Albania's governing Democrats have proposed a law allowing same-sex civil weddings in the small, predominantly Muslim country.

2. This is good for gay rights, and good for showing...
...that not all Muslims are dedicated to bringing back the 11th century. (At least if the law passes, as the article say it is expected to do.)

8. And we have some answers
The Democratic Part of Albania is a party that transcends religious lines. Malcontents have left the party to form the New Democratic party and the Christian-Democratic Party, leaving the Democratoc Party with - practically - the moderates. And Albania has lots of moderate leaning, voters, since Prime-Minister Berisha's party is the leading party in the Albanian parliament.

The Democratic Party was the firt opposition party to be allowed to exist (in 1990) after decades of communist dictatorship. Since the communists were rather restrictive in socio-ethical matters, the Democratic party still has a vibrant undercurrent of liberalism.

If you don't believe me: Wikipedia has many, many articles in various languages on the subject.

10. Two small questions:
- And I hope not to come over as a nitwit, but -

what does "K & R" mean?
and what does "nt" mean?

I see those letters in so many posts, and I keep failing to understand them.

11. "Kicked and recommended" and
"no text".

When you post anything in a thread, you automatically "kick" it to the top of the threads column. Recommending it (anywhere but the Lounge! ) can get that thread to the greatest page if it gets 5 recommends without being unrecommended down below 5 in a 24 hour period.

"No text" or eom (end of message) in a subject line means that there is nothing in the message box space (where this answer is right now), so you don't have to click on the subject line to see more...

6. This is really sad
In the U.S., allegedly the most "free" country on the planet, a group of citizens is denied a basic right that the rest of us enjoy. Meanwhile, a nation dominated by Islam, a religion that doesn't have a great track record towards human rights, is proposing the very right that assholes in the U.S. are denying to gay citizens.

It makes me really sick how fucked up so many Americans really are. And it's basically a problem created by the religious in the U.S., including, sadly, some members of the Democratic party, the supposed party of inclusion and equal rights for all.
