GD X-Post: M$NBC poll needs a ton of help. Should "In God We Trust" be removed from our currency?

Link to poll is inside this article: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10103424/

I received it from a very conservative religious acquaintance. It's clear people in those circles are pushing hard to stay on top in this poll.

3. If the beleivers in a god cannot agree on which god is the right god
how can we be a country "under god" and have our trust in god?

10. Well, the Xians & Jews know it means their god.
Edited on Thu Sep-24-09 12:45 PM by stopbush
Any other religious person knows it doesn't mean their god.

The article linked is 4 years old, so why are we discussing it today?

7. Man, the guy is a doctor AND a laywer!

Were those words added at a later date -- like with the Pledge of Aliegence?

We don't need that on our currency. People who believe in god don't need it on their dollar bills, it leads to people saying "we're a God fearing country" when that doesn't accurately represent all the citizens.

Read the date on the article you're linking to--the poll is four years old.

Edit: If conservatives want to spend their time worrying about a four year-old poll, I say let them.

11. Yes, I know it's old. I don't think that mattered to the person who sent it to me, who is one
of those who is always looking for reasons that prove why America is a "Christian nation" of the kind that needs prayer and mandatory Bible study in school, the Ten commandments posted publicly everywhere you turn, and laws that make sure we all obey those commandments.

13. Just send them this link:
http://avalon.law.yale.edu/18th_century/bar1796t.asp

With the accompanying text: "Article 11: As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion..."

And maybe a mention that this treaty was ratified by unanimous consent in the Senate.

14. Hmm. We must get the same emails.
Even though I keep telling them I auto-delete anything that mentions chain mail, Cute Kid Photos, President Obama's birth certificate, or especially Jesus.

Not too long ago I got the classic "Atheists Want To Ban Religious Broadcasting" alert. That damn thing was debunked way back in the 1970's, when it spread via snail mail and telephone. And church bulletins, of course.

12. And 'under God' from the Pledge.
Bellamy didn't write it that way. Likewise, go back to "my flag," not "the flag of the United States of Americs."

15. Should "In God We Trust" be removed from our currency?
Yes.

It's apparent who it is "we" really trust. And that's Goldman Sachs, not god. We never gave god that much money.

- Case closed.
