Did any of you click on that ad for a book about
the real bible? ... originally written in a greek language, and the main myth they were trying to bust was the beast or the 666 prophecy? I clicked on it, and read the teaser ebook that hooks you to want to buy it, well, I didn't of course, but I thought it made an interesting argument that in those days people were known by their first names and a number, and that...long story short, the Beast his number 666 had to have been someone from that era, which is what the book teases, a ninth king? Just wondering if anyone knows the final answer to the riddle? I think it rocks if the beast they were talking about was from that era, because it would further solidify my belief that so much of the bible is just what modern organized religion wants you to believe it is, so much is just fairy tale and folklore. The devil and the Beast keep the so called christians in line, huh? LAUGHABLE!!! There is no beast of the future. He's already come and gone!

2. There's an existing thread on it here:
Any thoughts about the "Jesus Secret Book?" (Koine Greek New Testament)

I read the ad. Later I read the thread. Understanding the ancient world is a bit of a challenge, but the issues were discussed extensively in antiquity and in several languages that are not complete mysteries to scholars, so I tend not to get excited by hype. Greek knowledge represented an apex of learning in the ancient world, and extensive Greek texts on mathematics (e.g. Euclid), philosophy (e.g. Plato and Aristotle), astronomy (e.g Ptolemy), and so on exist, together with cultural and political texts, as well as various Greek gospels

3. I Can Answer Your Question And Save You Some Money
I have a friend who has a PhD in Biblical History from Cambridge, and he's been a great resource for all my Bible-related questions. He told me years ago that when you read the ORIGINAL Bible in its ORIGINAL language (and much of it is in ancient Hebrew, which he actually can read), you learn just how wrong modern "Christians" have it. Most of the things today's "Christians" believe right down to their very souls have no basis whatsoever in the original Bible. They're the result of misinterpretations, mistranslations, and the infusion of some of the writers' personal beliefs into the texts.

Specifically with regard to the whole 666 thing, what the Bible ACTUALLY says about it is that all evil comes from man. That's why "The Devil's" number is 666. In ancient numerology, 6 is the number that represents humans. So there is no supernatural "Devil" or incarnate evil force looking to do evil to us. It IS us. All evil comes from MAN. Evil isn't some outside force acting upon us; it comes from inside of us. You didn't do the bad thing because some supernatural bad guy told you to or forced you to. You did it because it was within you all the time. Evil comes from within, not without. And that's all that means. All evil comes from man.

Horror movies and people looking to exploit the fears of others in order to sell books notwithstanding, if you're looking to find the source of all things evil, just look in the mirror. Satan is a fictional character; a personification of a concept; and nothing more.

5. And there is so much more along those same lines
It's really fascinating, finding out the original meaning and then comparing it with current belief.
OT: Dammit, your username always gives me an earworm! At least it's a fun one! :hi:
