I think I know why so many RRR
people are afraid of evolution and science in general.

I've been thinking about this, and I have finally come to a definitive answer. And I am quite serious about this answer.

Think about it. What is one of the MAJOR points of hubris for the fundies in our country and some abroad? It's that the Bible teaches--or says, whatever you want to believe--that MAN was made in God's image.

Now take the current times. Flash forward 2000 years to now, and all the fundies are convinced that the end times are near, that the apocalypse is right around the corner, and that they're going to be grabbed in the rapture to sit at the right side of their glorious leader.

Now I'm not disparaging anyone's religious beliefs, so don't try to see that here, but I often find the RRR's vision of "heaven" to be a little unfair, seeing as over half the population of the world would end up on the wrong side if these "Christians" were correct.

Now also think about something else here in the present. The world of scientists are on the verge of breakthroughs which might give us a return to space, and the possibility that we could, within our own time, come face to face with an alien race, or at the very least, proof that such a race may have existed in the past.

Up to now, it's been only an idea bandied about in writing circles, and fantasy and science fiction ones at that. But I think that fundies are disturbed by the possibility that aliens could very well be real, and that through the finding of that information, their very "personal" god will disappear in a puff of smoke.

Can you imagine if aliens showed up, how these narcissistic assholes (the fundies, NOT the alilens!) would lose that self-centered hypothesis that god looks like us, especially if aliens were so...alien looking as to not even resemble hominids such as ourselves?

I thus have solved one of the most vexing puzzles of our times, as to why the RRR is so opposed to evolution and science in general. You can pat me on the back later.

PS: When the ancient astronomers postulated that the solar system was heliocentric not geocentric, they got, as their reward, their heads on a platter--or the equivalent at the very least. I hope that isn't my reward!

1. Eppur si muove!
They really want to burn people at the stake who "undermine" or "contradict" their superstitions with facts.

2. I think it's because there's the implicit claim that there is no image
of God. If so, there's no way in which the 'image of God' is moral, as opposed to physical.

There is no sense in which a male monkey's behavior can be wrong, unless it's un-monkey-like (in which case 'wrong' is being used in a different sense). He can take the offspring of his intended mate with a different male and kill them to help provoke estrus in the female, and it's not immoral. He can also eat them, and it's still not immoral. Yucky, but natural--not immoral.

But what's natural for human being, and what's considered moral, tend to be two different things.

The objection to Hitler and Stalin, or to us being monkeys, is based in morality and rightness or wrongness of behavior. And that's where the argument has to be waged. Biology is a side issue; resolve the moral issue, and, really, the wind will be taken out of the anti-evolutionists' sails. Good luck.
