Loose Christian movement says End of Days will occur in May

Exley is part of a movement of Christians loosely organized by radio broadcasts and websites, independent of churches and convinced by their reading of the Bible that the end of the world will begin May 21, 2011.

To get the word out, they're using billboards and bus stop benches, traveling caravans of RVs and volunteers passing out pamphlets on street corners. Cities from Bridgeport, Conn., to Little Rock, Ark., now have billboards with the ominous message, and mission groups are traveling through Latin America and Africa to spread the news outside the U.S.
..
..
But few churches are willing to set a date for the end of the world, heeding Jesus' words in the gospels of Mark and Matthew that no one can know the day or hour it will happen. Predictions like Camping's, though, aren't new. One of the most famous in history was by the Baptist leader William Miller, who predicted the end for Oct. 22, 1844, which came to be known as the Great Disappointment among his followers, some of whom subsequently founded the Seventh Day Adventist church.

I wonder if we'll see some new denomination form out of this once May 22 rolls around and nobody's been raptured? Apocalypse... tomorrow!

2. The Second Great Disappointment
You'd think the last one ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Disappointment ) would have shown that all that end times shit is just that, bullshit.

6. Even worse, this same guy predicted the same thing for 1994
No wonder they need to be born again, and again, and again. Can't seem to get it right the first time.

10. I think I'll find some of them and ask for their cars and houses the day before
If they really really REALLY believe they will be leaving, then they shouldn't have any problem signing their property over to me.

Betcha I can't find any who will do it though.

4. Another Great Disappointment ....
The first produced the Seventh Day Adventists .....

I wish there were a law that states: "ALL persons who promote millenialistic eschatological notions as fact, and sets a date for the end of the world, should, if that day passes without the world actually ending, shall, upon the beginning of the day after which the world should have ended, never say another word in public again"

Or something like that ...

13. Well, technically there *is* a law
except it's just a Biblical one, that says anybody who makesa prediction that doesn't happen is absolutely a false prophet, and they had pretty harsh penalties for false prophets.

But they don't really REALLY follow their book when it comes to things like that.

11. Nobody knows the time of the end.

And 'this generation will not pass until they see the end times'

I figure the end happens through all time, and is a comment on a transitional period of the after life that happens to many people in spiritual form after first death.

And according to teachings, Jesus is in the heart, and also the people that are poor and in hardship, and with many people as the Holy Ghost, so why are they awaiting his return when those same scriptures says he has been here the whole time.

20. your thread title
"Loose Christian movement says End of Days will occur in May" is word for word what the Yahoo hyperlink said that I saw. Made me laugh. I think someone at Yahoo must have a sense of humor - or else isn't too sharp.

I'll probably regret laughing come May 22.
