Yesterday was Daniel Berrigan's 90th birthday.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Berrigan

"Daniel Berrigan, SJ (born May 9, 1921) is an American poet, peace activist, and Catholic priest. Daniel and his brother Philip were for a time on the FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list for their involvement in antiwar protests during the Vietnam war."

The interview on Democracy Now is about 5 years old. It's well worth watching.

4. Wait, I asked you first! :)
I guess I just don't see how a man's birthday is a relevant discussion topic in this forum. I must be missing something, can you explain it to me?

6. He has been a leader for the past 60 years on civil rights, anti-war, and it's his birthday...
He deserves to be honored and remembered. He has been bold and consistent and fearless. He has worked for everything you and I both believe in, for over 60 years. And he is a priest. And his spirituality is important to him. I think that makes his 90th birthday pretty appropriate for this board.
K?

7. Fair enough, Thanks.
I really DID just want to know why you thought it belonged here.

That wasn't so hard, now was it?

:fistbump:

3. We could use some activists like Berrigan now.
They might wake people up to our actual plight and to what we can do about it.

And I was hoping for an answer from the one that posted that. (Unless you already know somehow what they are thinking?)

13. because Berrigan has fought his whole life against these things, from a religious basis...
I'm not asking anyone to agree with his beliefs. I AM asking that people acknowledge that his beliefs informed his actions, and that he has been at the front of justice and peace movements longer than many here have been alive.

10. I Had No Right
God of the poor man
This is how the day began
Eight codefendants
I, Daniel Berrigan
Oh and only a layman’s batch of napalm
We pulled the draft files out
We burned them in the parking lot
Better the files than the bodies of children ...
