2-Headed Baby Born in China
A Chinese woman gave birth last week to a baby girl with two heads -- an extremely rare form of conjoined twins.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, it is a condition known as dicephalic parapagus, in which only one body develops. Because they share the one body, they cannot be separated.

Why would a benevolent, loving god make this happen?

1. He provides some people with extra special difficulties in life so that
he can reward them in a special way after death.

11. If God is all-powerful, (S)he can reward them any way (S)he wants and at any time.
Cruelty to the innocent prior to "reward" is simply sadistic - probably why I can't manage to worship "God".

27. Not my religious view, and not my god. Thems is YOUR beliefs.
I happen to think the God of Abraham is one nasty POS demon. Way too meanspirited and vindictive for my tastes.

4. That does not answer the question.
Why would a benevolent, loving god allow this kind of suffering to happen to a child that has committed no sin?

3. Conjoined twins sharing one body is better description. There are twin girls in
the midwest US (Iowa?) who are now teenagers -with the same condition.

20. Yes
I was on a cruise in the Carribbean with them a few years ago. (On the same boat, not with the.) Apparently there was a documentary series about them which I watched afterwards.

Railing about the HORROR of their life is sort of toolish. They are happy girls.

that god is a malevolent douchebag, god doesn't get involved in human affairs (which would make prayer and worship obsolete), or else there is no god.

Or maybe he just has a unfathomable sense of humor.

13. SO by that rationale, we humans and our existence, are simply an "experience" for god?
And if its a sense of humor, I don't find it funny at all.

12. "Why would a benevolent, loving god make this happen?"
If my understanding of modern, American Christianity is correct, God only cares about sports and celebrity award shows...

or God won't lift a finger to help anyone...

or God will heal the baby if the baby's faith is strong enough.

17. "The LORD works in mysterious ways", or maybe...
..."It is not for us to judge the actions of God". Those are the basic pre-packaged excuses, perhaps to be followed by a few desperate attempts to come up with imaginative ways that this condition could somehow be a "blessing".

Oddly enough, however, even though we aren't supposed to be sufficiently competent as mere mortals to judge the supposed actions of God as negligent or cruel, we are somehow simultaneously perfectly qualified to laud praise on God for being benevolent and merciful and forgiving and just.

It seems to me if humans aren't qualified to make negative judgements about God, we'd be similarly incapable of making authoritative positive assessments.

Don't know why you need to disparage. There are other sets of conjoined twins who have the same condition who have fulfilling lives. It's nature, and it happens.

33. It's a freak of Nature ...
Edited on Wed May-11-11 08:10 AM by Nihil
It happens occasionally so, with over 6 billion people around the planet
today, one's bound to turn up once in a while.

Last century it would have been pickled in a jar and exhibited in a
travelling show for the yokels to gawp at. Today it has photographs
taken and shared around the web for the yokels to gawp at (in between
the other zero-interest forms of "entertainment" for the proles with
attention-spans measured in single-digit minutes).

Not quite sure where "a benevolent, loving god" is supposed to come
into that but I don't claim to believe in such a thing anyway.

36. That's the word I used.
> Oh FFS...these are two distinct humans we're talking about here.

Nope. If they were distinct then their photo wouldn't have been
splashed across the world in the way that it has as they would
simply be known (to their parents & families) as "the twins".

The OP photo doesn't show two babies zipped into a single baby-gro
for a cute family photo; it shows an unfortunate freak of nature
that's getting its 15 minutes of fame with more exposure than any
other sick child on the planet at this moment - even to the extent
of becoming the topic of a thread being used to taunt the religious
members of the forum by means of pointing out yet another case where
"the world isn't fair" (as if there weren't enough examples of that
around to keep people occupied).

You are free to grant the subject of the photo whatever "courtesy"
you wish. Just don't tell other people to do the same when they don't
share your love for gruesome oddities.
