National Anthem muted again on Goshen College campus
GOSHEN — Goshen College will no longer play the National Anthem before sporting events after a year of doing so.

The college announced Monday afternoon that its board of directors has asked President Jim Brenneman to find an alternative to playing the National Anthem. In its statement the board said the alternative song should fit (with sports tradition, that honors country and that resonates with Goshen College’s core values and respects the views of diverse constituencies.

“The board is committed to advancing with President Brenneman the vision for Goshen College to be recognized as an influential leader in liberal arts education with a growing capacity to serve a theologically, politically, racially and ethnically diverse constituency both within and beyond the Mennonite church.”

The board’s statement can be found at http://www.goshen.edu/anthem/docs/anthem-decision-statement.pdf

2. Oh, I get it. It's a hippie college, "Healing the world, peace by peace."

It's all the stuff about bombs bursting in air and war that they object to.

At Goshen, we're passionate about making peace. If you believe in care of the earth and care of one another, if you put your faith and God before anything else, this is the college for you. We're for people who want to serve the world with joy in the name of peace.

3. I admire the Mennonites. They have a 500 year old peace tradition.
