Porky Pig's Pledge
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7URGk0DBsZY&feature=youtu.be

The original pledge with some modifications but still sans "god", as written by a socialist Baptist minister.

It used to be really short- I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

5. The original pledge didn’t have the words "under God" in it.
They were added in 1954 as part of the McCarthy red scare.

Porky's pledge was filmed in 1939 hence no under god.

10. And into the Twenties without saying "the United States of America."
They just said "my flag." Wow, and the U.S. survived WWI that way -- with people possibly pledging allegiance to some other flag.

;-)

7. I remember seeing this
When I was a kid watching cartoons on TBS after school and wondering why Porky was messing up the pledge.

9. No, I believe it was Eisenhower who messed it up....
Just part of the Cold War insanity this country has never recovered from.

11. When we are in a place where it is said
let's go back to that version loud enough to be heard by those around us..

12. I always do that -
Edited on Tue Jun-21-11 07:49 PM by GoneOffShore
but I'm not usually in places where "the Pledge" is recited.

Don't go to sporting events or public rallies where it's expected (and then I don't recite it).

It's really jingoistic silliness. Exactly like putting a flag on your front lawn. Is it to remind you that you're from this country?

14. That's very good idea.
I'm doing that the next time I'm in a place where "The Pledge" is recited.
