Feds Charge “Christian Warrior” With Firebombing Oregon Mosque
There’s no shortage of hate. Take Cody Crawford, a self described Christian warrior.

The 24-year-old Oregon man has been charged with a hate crime for a November firebombing of a Mosque in Corvallis, Ore., the Associated Press reports.

Authorities allege that Crawford is a “potential major contributor” of DNA to a blue Maglite agents found near the mosque the morning of the firebombing, according to AP. The indictment out of Eugene, Ore. was announced on Thursday.

Crawford, a self-described Christian warrior, told an officer on his Dec. 14 arrest (for unrelated charges), “You look like Obama. You are a Muslim like him. Jihad goes both ways. Christians can jihad too.”

... Crawford ranted about Muslims, said Christians are capable of jihad and told an officer he resembled President Barack Obama ...

He had been arrested Dec. 14 after causing a disturbance at a gas station by shining a flashlight at a car, "talking about terrorists and Muslims," and telling a witness he would "come back and kill you if you call the cops," according to the document.

Crawford was arrested again Dec. 16, this time in Corvallis, for waving a knife around in his front yard, authorities said. He was taken to a local hospital for a mental evaluation ...

7. Let get this straight
If it's a "Christian", they take them to a hospital for a mental evaluation, but if it's a Muslim, they waterboard them!

I don't see the disparity here, does anyone else?:sarcasm:

3. Man arrested in Ore. mosque bombing
Associated Press / August 26, 2011

EUGENE, Ore. - Federal officials arrested a 24-year-old man this week in the firebombing of an Oregon mosque last year and said he was motivated by racial hatred after a Muslim man was accused of plotting to set off a car bomb in Portland.

Cody Crawford, who has been under investigation since the Corvallis mosque was torched Nov. 28, was arrested Wednesday night at a home in nearby Monmouth. Officials said he did not resist arrest.

Crawford was indicted on charges of damaging religious property for racial reasons, which is a hate crime, and of using fire to commit a felony.

“This was an attack on religious freedom and an attack on the American way of life,’’ said Dwight Holton, US attorney for Oregon ...

4. Corvallis Mosque Fire Suspect Arraigned
August 25, 2011
By Stacia Kalinoski

... Crawford showed virtually no emotion when the judge read the charges ... The judge choose to detain Crawford, saying his alcoholism and mental health problems pose a threat to the public, as well as to his 5-year-old son who was living with him ... The 24-year-old has a juvenile record that dates back to 2001 ...

12. If you're willing to overlook his previous history, then sure.
However, most Christians don't feel any need to commit acts like "assault, breaking a window when he was in jail, throwing a cup of urine at a deputy, dealing drugs, burglary, criminal trespassing and other crimes ..."

Part of his mental illness is he beliefs and how he uses his beliefs to justify his actions.

No one is overlooking anything, but someone IS trying to deny something...

22. You mean the guy with atheist books who did not ascribe a motivation.
I have several bibles. If I burn a science lab and don't say why am I a Christian who burned the science lab? Why or why not?

Disclaimers necessary only for idiots:
1) I have no intention of burning anything
2) I have exactly the same idea as anyone else about the religious opinions of one of the TX arsonists - none at all. He may have been Hitchens or Rudolph or Bin Laden in religious opinion - all we know is he had several books.

Gotta say this about religious extremists - they ain't shy about admitting it. Makes you wonder why their correligionists are actually LESS upfront and honest than crazy arsonists.

How many mosques, synagogues, Buddhist temples, etc. were burned?

I love how you can't seem to tell the difference between anti-Christian and anti-religious. It's almost like the fact that not everyone believes as you do doesn't even cross your mind.

6. Suspect in Corvallis mosque firebombing will remain in jail, judge orders

By Maxine Bernstein, The Oregonian

... Just two months ago, Crawford was released from a state hospital after he spent the first half of the year civilly committed for a mental illness.

Unlike state court, federal court has no insanity defense, but the court would have to ensure Crawford is competent to assist his attorney to stand trial.

Assistant U.S. Attorney William "Bud" Fitzgerald said Crawford suffers from "a pattern of bipolarity and alcohol addiction." When FBI agents arrested him Wednesday night at a Monmouth home he shares with his mother and 5-year-old son, they smelled alcohol on his breath, Fitzgerald said.

Bryan Lessley, assistant federal public defender, signaled that he will raise Crawford's mental health as an issue as the case proceeds. "Mr. Crawford has very severe mental health issues, and hospitalizations in the past," Lessley said. "We're going to spend awhile trying to get to the bottom of that" ...

His background may look to familiar to folk who watch neo-nazi youth

He's not the happiest camper

It looks like his "justification" was another crime committed by someone who irregularly attended the mosque

Sometimes unbalanced people react in that bigoted way: look for somebody who can be called a sick scumbag, stereotype a larger group based on that person, and set out to "teach those people a lesson"

violent version.

The mixing of reality and fantasy does not express itself well in some affected by these delusions.
The least stable WILL turn violent lacking any grounding in the real world that is not part of the fantasy.

"mental patients can jihad too"

"drug dealers can jihad too""

"criminals can jihad too"

"teen fathers can jihad too"

"racists can jihad too"?

If he had would you try desperately to show those had no motivation force at all?

Why didn't he say those things? If the officer reminded him of Obama surely he was of mixed race at least. Why not target an NAACP office and call him a darkie when arrested? Why did he choose a religious target, call himself a warrior based on religion, and say his religion could jihad too if he wasn't motivated by religion?

I'm not suggesting that Christianity cannot be read to support this kind of thing, especially if you read all that animosity toward rival gods in the OT. It's just that these my-god-is-better-than-your-god people strike me as profoundly idiotic.
