God's role in Hurricane Irene.
So just what is gods role in this storm?

Is this some kind of retribution inflicted on the US by god?

or

Is god going to protect some people from harm and save others in the aftermath?

1. God doesn't intervene. Many people, faithful and otherwise, have agreed upon that.

Maybe he's a sadist.
Maybe he's uninterested.
Maybe he's incompetent.

Or maybe, just maybe, "he" doesn't exist.

8. Ding-ding-ding!!!
Maybe rather than mumbling to imaginary deities, we should be taking action to control our own lives and deal with our own problems.

2. You keep forgetting free will in this Epicurean trilemma. Free will can....
.... Do something or other with hurricanes - can't remember what. Move several hundred miles out of the possible path, regardless of transportation options I guess whenever one is predicted.

3. Does Pat Robertson participate in DU or something?
He would be the one replying with the suggestion that hurricanes are supernatural (as opposed to natural) disasters used as punishment for something. However, I don't think people here in R/T (religious and non-religious) believe that Irene is a supernatural event and I would assume that most agree that hurricanes are natural events that occur every year during hurricane season. But I could be wrong about my assumption, of course.

4. Well, I don't think many DU'ers believe Irene is a supernatural event...
but I'm willing to bet that there are many who believe that god will have played a part in some of the "miracle" survival stories that are sure to come...
