The 6 Ugliest Rich Churches in Houston
By Richard Connelly Fri., Oct. 21 2011 at 7:01 AM

We do love our churchin' here in Houston. And our donatin', which allows churches to build massive, eye-catching temples.

And some of them turn out very ugly.

We're not talking about churches who don't have much money -- or who choose to spend what money they have on something other than architecture. We don't mean strip-mall storefronts or renovated old theaters.

No, we mean churches with congregations who have money to burn and have burned it unwisely.

1. Look more like banks than churches.
:puke:

But...I guess there is not that much difference, is there...

4. And he asked, "Master, how can I follow you?" And Jesus said,
"Sell everything that you own and give that money to the poor. Then come and follow me." He thought a moment and then turned walking away sadly with his slave.

They truly have no idea do they.

6. Who are they? All Christians? Because honestly no Christian on the planet...

follows that particular command of Jesus. He also said for people to leave their families to follow him. If you think about it, he sounds a lot like a modern cult leader, the early Christians were even apocalyptic. The only thing missing is the mass suicide.

I always wonder, when I see churches that ostentatious, how much of that money could have been used to help the poor of that community. (And it seems you do too given the pic.)

None of those in the link are quite as bad as Southeast Christian in Louisville, though:

8. That's pretty bad.

This one looks like the senate in Star Wars.

9. They didn't have room for Second Babtist.
Lotsa ugly megachurches in Houston.

First Babtist looks like a warehouse.
Second babtist has a lot of stained glass and a dome.
They spent $35 million on a new building instead of feeding people.

Joel Osteen is the sorriest excuse for a preacher I've ever seen. I think he dropped out after one semester at Six Flags Over Jeebus (Oral Roberts U. in Tulsa).

I have yet to hear about him spending one dime on the less fortunate.
