Ideas for reforming Islam
I ran across this blog (The Religious Policeman) of a Saudi Arabian living in the UK... it's pretty amusing throughout, but he gives some interesting ideas for reforming Islam.

So here are my humble suggestions for some Good Muslim News. All they need is for the "powers that be" to turn them into reality.

1. A Council of Muslim scholars today produced the definitive "New Quran". Based on the original version, it omits all that Dark Age anachronistic stuff about stoning adultresses, beating wives, beheading Kuffars, amputations, lashing, lying to unbelievers and Jews, the so-called sin of Apostacy, and eternal Jihad, and instead concentrates on the good bits about worshipping God, loving all his creatures, respecting our fellow-men, and being charitable to one and all. It will henceforth be the definitive religious text for the Faith. The "Old Quran" will be retained merely for its historic and poetic interest.

2. The Supreme Council of Imams yesterday announced that, after a fourteen-century continuous war which it finally realized it would never win, a peace treaty has been finally concluded with the Kuffars, who would henceforth be known as "fellow-humans". All territorial claims to the rest of the world have been dropped, specifically including Bali, Southern Spain, and Israel. Any acts of war or terrorism by individuals or communities will be punished by excommunication, banishment, permanent prohibition from entry to the Two Holy Mosques, and denial of burial in Muslim graveyards.

3. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has today declared itself open to all religions. All faiths will be permitted to worship openly without let or hindrance. As evidence of its serious intent, it is allocating space in Makkah and Madinah for the building of a Christian church, a Jewish synagogue, Hindu and Buddist temples.

4. A travelling exhibition, entitled "No More Lies", has this week started its round-the-world tour in New York. It disavows all the previous lies espoused by the Muslim Ummah, including the classic""Protocols of the Elders of Zion" is an authentic document" lie, the "4000 Jews got a phone call on 9/10 not to go to work tomorrow" lie, the "we don't know what nationality the hijackers were" lie, and the "Holocaust was a journalistic practical joke" lie.

There is much more. The whole blog is excellent, especially his skewering of Saudi royalty, and the conversations they have with each other in dealing with the West.

1. The blog has a suspicious reputation
It has been alleged (a few years ago now) that the blog's author is working psyops for the US.

5. hmmm..
Possible, I suppose, though I would tend to think that if it were a stealth US site it would be more pro Saudi.

I wouldn't be totally surprised if it were true; I was thinking that it might not be "real". He jokes about the King and Bush exchanging pins, since they were high school sweet hearts. I thought "pinning" was an obscure bit of 50s-60s pop culture trivia. I was surprised that he (an alleged Saudi national living in the UK)would know of it. Then again, maybe he gets knowledge of American culture from watching Happy Days re-runs...

7. Where'd you hear that?
I've been reading his blog for three or so years and have not seen that assertion before.

3. The blogger seem a tad ignorant of Islam
In Islamic belief, the Q'uran is almost literally from God's mouth to Mohammad's ear (via the archangel Gabriel.) A great many Muslims, even moderates, consider anything other than the original Arabic to be incomplete and not worthy of note; replacing it with a "new Q'uran" is heresy in the extreme. It is almost like telling Christians to throw out the Bible and turn instead to one of the Humanist Manifestos.

8. "... like telling Christians to throw out the Bible ..."
Or throw out the O.T. when it suits them?

4. For a "Muslim" site....
It certainly propagates a lot of the misconceptions and outright lies about Islam.

It's a poor attempt at a stealth anti-Islam site, IMHO.

Firstly there is no provision for lying to ANYONE in the Quran or in Islam, In fact deceitfulness of any stripe is forbidden in the Quran and Muhammad (pbum) stated that one could not be a Muslim and a lier. Truth is an essential element of our faith.

"Dark Age anachronistic stuff about stoning adulteresses, beating wives, beheading Kuffars, amputations, lashing, lying to unbelievers and Jews, the so-called sin of Apostasy, and eternal Jihad." Same old same old that I have addressed before, and probably need not go into again as most here are educated and knowledgeable can see through this. Although, I will be more than happy to answer questions from anyone about Islam, as always. I might ask the writer when does he think the majority of the other Holy Books of the world should be edited.

As for the "Protocols of the Elders of Zion", I'm not so sure that Muslims have embraced this document anymore than any other religious or cultural group. And it sure wasn't Muslims who wrote it.

Two years ago we were cleaning out the library at our Mosque, choosing which books we would keep and which we would sell or give away at a community sale. We were sorting through stacks of books when we found an old arabic copy of this book someone had donated years ago buried under a number of other older books. None of us had even known it was there.

After due consideration of all present, it was unanimously decided to place the book in the trash where it belonged.

Peace and Ramadan Mubarak.

6. The more I think about it,
the more I'm afraid you might be correct, PsychoDad. Or at least a bitter person who's lost his faith. Such a thing is not unknown amoung Catholics, or other religions.

Maybe I should make a policy about not posting before going to work, to ensure I'm fully awake.

In any event, my apologies to any that were offended. Such was not my intent.

10. I wasn't offended by your post my friend.
:)

Perhaps it was a bitter person, but unfortunately there are many such sites online which proport to be Muslim or from ex-muslims which seem to contain as much truth about Islam amd it's goals as the Protocols of the Elders of Zion proports to contain about Jews.

The knowledge of Islam on the site seems to be based upon the popular stereotypes found in our society, and not from an internal understanding.

And in the end, it is best to expose sites like this and ask questions. Falsehood thrives in the dark, but is killed in the light.

Peace :)

9. I thought it was all about interpretation.
"In fact deceitfulness of any stripe is forbidden in the Quran ..."

Some Immams encourage lying to and the killing of "infidels", while other Muslims expressly forbid it.

All religions are likely to be used for unjust ends by some who use it to justify their actions.

"Peace and Ramadan Mubarak."

Peace to you, also and Happy Ramadan. :)

11. How true.
"All religions are likely to be used for unjust ends by some who use it to justify their actions."

Sadly this is quite true. As Muslims we are encouraged to follow the example of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) just as Christians are encouraged to follow the example of Jesus (pbuh). Looking round, I fear neither group is doing a good job.

"Some Immams encourage lying to and the killing of "infidels","

Although prominently displayed in the media, they are fortunately about as numerous as the ilk of Falwell and Robertson. I wonder how they would interpret the Hadeeth where the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) states, "...A believer will not lie." Seems pretty clear to me that anyone willing to lie places themselves outside Islam, according to the saying of the Prophet.

"Peace to you, also and Happy Ramadan."

Thank you my friend :)
And to you and yours , Peace.

12. I just noticed this....
The Supreme Council of Imams

Meets every second tuesday of the month at the Mecca branch of Hooters..... where they secretly teleconference with the Elders of Zion who meet at the Jerusalem Hooters.

The Bilderburgers, Illuminati, Sun Yung Moon and the Caliph of the O.T.O. receive their orders directly from them.

G.W. Bush had to wait for the coded classified ad in the Washington Times for his instructions, but he has since lost his decoder ring. That's why he's so screwed up.

Anymore information is not entitled to one of your grade.

Seriously, there is no supreme council of Imans... Sunni Muslims like myself are too disorganized. :) We have no religious hierarchy and 5 schools of jurisprudence that we use.

excommunication

We don't have that provision, best to talk to the Pope about that one.

But remember, not on the second tuesday of the month, he'll be involved in a conference call. :)

Peace.
