Religious tracts land in Trick or Treat bags

Twizzlers or tracts? Millions go missionary on Halloween by dropping little booklets on salvation in kids' candy bags.

This year, the American Tract Society's offerings for the holiday include Peek-A-Boo: Jesus Loves You, which sternly cautions the door-to-door pint-size demons-for-a-night that "the Bible says the wages of Sin is death," then offers an elementary school version of the sinners prayer,

"Jesus, I'm sorry I do bad things. Please forgive me..."

The ATS Ministries Light Up the Night site reminds believers

"By distributing ATS tracts along with candy (or the special ATS Fun Paks that include a toy) you can provide each and every child that comes to your door with an evangelistic presentation..."

And it answers concerns that if participating in Trick or Treat is joining in a devilishly pagan ritual:

"By choosing to evangelize on Halloween, Christians can shine the True Light on what is possibly one of the darkest nights of the year."

if me and my pagan pals were to include little messages in treat bags such as:

"The Goddess Loves You"

that has largely replaced the old local pagan festivity called 'Kekri' - celebration of harvest having been collected and everyting done to be ready for the winter. And I'm glad that the Kekri-tradition is now going through a phase of rebirth:

Why do they feel the need to recruit other peoples' children?

enclosed a Chick tract in his final exam and urged me to read it. And no, he was not joking.

I feel the need for Brain Bleach.

Perhaps these missionary efforts would be more successful if they didn't threaten children. That's just disgusting.
