Just what is the makeup of this forum re: God/gods

I would be curious to see what percentage of the visitors to this forum take various stands with respect to God or gods.

Which of these statements do you agree with?

who is not sure if God exists, but is pretty sure that if He (She/It) does exist it is the God as described by his religion. So go figure. The agnostic category is not a black and white affair and I was curious to see what the shades of grey looked like.

You define god anyway you choose, and then respond to the poll based on that definition. To try to define God is so hopeless an undertaking that there's no point in even opening that can of worms. I'm sure that the atheist (such as myself) would say "god" means any kind of supernatural being that creates and/or controls the universe. Or perhaps any kind of supernatural being at all. On the other hand, a true believer in some specific religion will define "god" as seen by that specific religion.

Because, I truly don't know either way. I love the tales of my ancestors, and all the little spirits and kami that, Shinto say are in nature. I believe each thing has its own energy level in constant movement, or perhaps call it a spirit level on its own.. whether or not I call them gods, or kami..I simply do not know. I don't know what happens to the spirits of those ancestors.. Energy can not be created or destroyed. Who is to say we don't have our own spirit energy existance. I simply don't know.

That leaves the whole question open without taking any stand either way. I figured that was the same as saying I don't know. Of course if we were honest we'd ALL have to answer "I don't know".

They often become more reflective of the culture and lifestyle and environment in which folks likely to believe or be intrigued by the story, fable, fairy tale, whatever.

Creation stories, flood stories, (there have been occasional disastrous floods in many regions of the world over many hundred millions of years), reincarnation stories, (children and grandchildren that look or act like ancestors, etc.) There have been stories of arks/boats and feats and famines and locusts, and warfare and plagues, and other travesties in virtually all cultures, at many times over many thousands of years both before and since the invention of symbolic record-keeping, (written books).
