Dead People Who Don't Know that they are Dead
That is the book I just finished reading. Did you know that if people pop over the other side too fast they just don't know that they are dead.

Heaven is whatever you believe it to be.

It's hard for people who don't believe in an afterlife to figure the whole thing out.

And fragments of spirits can catch hold of normal people and hang on - making the normal people appear to be crazy when they really are not.

Spirits really do possess people and can be thrown out.

1. Really? How exactly did they figure this out?
Did they interview dead people?

Take an afterlife census?

Sheesh.

6. Really!!!
Sheesh..ha! How does one "know" such a thing? I would like an answer to that one too.

8. No. Mediums talk to the dead.
And these mediums can get the dead to turn around and pay attention to the light so they can get going in the right direction. Otherwise they just stay stuck thinking they are still alive.

Heaven is a great place - everyone loves it. And its a lot like earth - you spend your time learning important things. But I'm not sure just what those things are.

And the most important thing is for people to be prepared before they get there. It makes the whole transition a lot easier.

Is that I can't believe there's anyone who can "talk to the dead." Why should I believe these mediums when they say they can do that? People like John Edward are just doing painfully obvious cold readings. To quote that great poet-philosopher Han Solo, " I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen anything to make me believe there's one all-powerful force controlling everything. There's no mystical energy field that controls my destiny. ... It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense."

15. What's amazing is that the talking dead are so MUNDANE.
I mean, these are people who have Crossed Thru The Final Veil. Joined the Choir Invisible. Ascended to the Ultimate. Unless they are just Pining For The Fjords. (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

And what sort of valuable metaphysical insights and mystical knowledge do they pass on, thru the likes of John-Edward, James van Praagh, and Sylvia Browne?

Generally something awesome like...

"Your father loved you very much and wants you to be happy."

Well, no shit, Einstein! I knew that before my father died! What about a description of Heaven? Or telling us if God really is a Big Light-Bulb-Headed Guy on a throne, like in the Jack Chick comics?

5. If you haven't had the experience
of talking with someone who is dead, you wouldn't know. It is not something that happens a lot, I think, but something that is talked about among mystical circles.

12. No - these people talked to the dead all the time
not just in the dark.

Having never been around a medium I can't really speak to this issue. There may very well be people who can talk to the dead.

20. Talking to the dead is nothing extraordinary.
It's when you think they're talking back that you start having problems.

18. Well, I never claimed to "know everything."
Though I certainly don't claim to talk to dead people.

Aren't you the one who's always pitching the Sufi path to enlightenment in other threads? Why don't you kill two birds with one stone and talk to a famous dead Sufi, the Ayatollah Khomeini? I'd sorta like to know how the old bugger's doing in his Post-Life Scenario.

21. Who says I haven't talked to Sufi saints?
Look, if you are a non-believer, I will not denegrate your choice. Why the hostility towards mine? I know I will never change your viewpoints, and I won't try. But I will try to be polite. BTW, the Ayatollah Khomeini was not a Sufi, I believe. I know he is not of my silsilah (spiritual lineage).

I assume you agree with that. Then I guess we'll both find out, won't we? We'll either be nothing, which I assume is your viewpoint, or there will be something there.

Do Hindus remember their "past life"?

OTOH, if you are sitting in heaven plucking your harp, then I guess you are still "alive"!

23. if there is nothing, there is nothing
And I guess you won't be able to find out. I don't believe in the concept of heaven you describe, thank you. You know, not all believers fit the stereotypes you have of them.

But I would like to know-and this is in sincerity, not trying to start a flame war-if you believe death is the end of everything, then do you believe it is very important to stay alive as long as possible, ala Terri Shaivo? Or do you think that death should come before the brain is dead and the quality of life is down to nothing? We know what the rw fundies thought of Terri, and I've often wondered what nonbelievers felt about end of life issues.

16. Just because there are crooks doesn't mean that
something might actually be true.

There has been a huge amount of chicanery in this area. But that doesn't mean that there aren't ways to connect to the dead.

Just because something can't be proved, has never been proved, doesn't mean it isn't true....sheesh. Why do you think it is that no one has bothered to pick up that million bucks at http://www.randi.org? Or tried to get by the B.S. meter of real scientists?
