Scientist Proves 1988 Dating of the Shroud of Turin Was Invalid
New Chemical Testing Points to Ancient Origin for Burial Shroud of Jesus; Los Alamos Scientist Proves 1988 Carbon-14 Dating of the Shroud of Turin Used Invalid Rewoven Sample

DALLAS, Jan. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Shroud of Turin Association for Research (AMSTAR), a scientific organization dedicated to research on the enigmatic Shroud of Turin, thought by many to be the burial cloth of the crucified Jesus of Nazareth, announced today that the 1988 Carbon-14 test was not done on the original burial cloth, but rather on a rewoven shroud patch creating an erroneous date for the actual age of the Shroud.

1. I make it a point to never trust science that goes to press release..
...before peer review.

6. Perhaps they will submit their findings to peer review
A single claim from a scientist is just the beginning of the process. This is the same tactic the cigarrete companies have used. Turn in a unreviewed claim and then take no notice of refutation. And the fact that the claim comes from an institution dedicated to the shroud should raise some eyebrows.

7. From the "Skeptical Inquirer" magazine people:

This may not be the best or most recent article they have about this. For sure there will be more about this in an upcoming issue. They are very patient (they have to be). The pseudoscience trend in this country is not encouraging.
