Spongebob and the "Crackpot" Christians...
Here's a story about how radical right so-called "Christian" groups are losing credibility, and how they give the rest of us Christians a bad name:

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6853667/

P.S. I LOVE Spongebob, and I'm a Christian!

5. Yeah, pretty much
I liked the humor of this article, and how it points out the hipocrisy of the religious right as opposed to "true" Christians, and doesn't bash Christianity as a whole.

2. Article will be seen as proof of the 'liberal media' and 'persecution'
Oh, God...

This article is going to get MAJOR attention within Christian communities as PROOF of the 'liberal media' and as evidence of the on-going eternal 'persecution of Christians'. They will talk about how the 'elite establishment' loves to 'mock godly people' etc.

I am already feeling sick.

BTW, does anyone know where I can get the 'homo-promoto Sponge Bob video'? Can it be downloaded or viewed online? I'd really like to see it. This reminds me of the famous Falwell/Teletubbies debacle...what a laugh we all got out of that one.

4. Spongebob and Patrick go to a UCC church. . .
after bouncers push them out of the church down the street. That would make an interesting commercial for Nickelodeon.

8. If that could be pulled off, I'd re-mortgage my house to pay for the ads
Well, maybe not my house, but I'd give til it hurt to pay for airtime.

An ad like you described would be a triumph for tolerance, and a slap in the face of the fascist, hate-filled, judgmental, religious right and their radical clerics like Falwell, Robertson, and Dobson.

And it would reach children - which would further enrage those bigots.

10. And it would be funny
which, of course, would be meaningless to the Christian Right. I'm an Episcopalian, by the way. We'd put Spongebob on the Vestry.

6. Help me out here - what's the Bible verse on paranoia?
Ya gotta love those psychos who live to use the Bible to beat the living crap out of people they don't like. I'm sure there was a verse about that too. What would Jesus do? But of course, beat the living crap out of anyone who looks gay. Poor Spongebob, he would stand no chance against that!

Maybe the Krusty Krab is really a gay bar. All of my belief systems shot to hell! And ... oh, wait ... the group was reading the wrong website? They got it wrong? Oh ok, wait a minute, let me stop beating the crap out of these poor, defenseless cartoon characters. We'll just pick them up and brush them off. Ok, no harm done in freaking out thousands of now-confused Spongebob-loving Christians around the world LOL.

14. Actually, not true.

Anyway, I'm wondering if Spongebob can sue Dobson for defamation of character? I really want to see this story continue.....with all the real problems we have in this country today, FoF thinks this is important?

15. LMFAO .....
THAT is hilarious .....

I always loved Betty Bowers .... She is the bomb ...

I suppose that one could find a penis and testes on spongebob if one could find a holy saint in the grill patterns of a piece of toast ...

Thanks for that website link ....

9. Just to clarify, Focus on the Family refuses to admit they goofed
There was confusion between the We Are Family Foundation (creators of the video) and We Are Family a GLBT advocacy group. If you Google We Are Family the primary links are to the GLBT group. You have to specifically look for We Are Family Foundation to get to the video group. There is no specific advocacy of GLBT issues beyond the notion of tolerance for all at this site.

11. There's a huge difference between Christians
and the CINOs like Dobson who pick and choose their "religion" from Paul and Leviticus, while ignoring the words of Christ.

Yeah, we can tell the difference. We know that bunch of right wing wackos have only stolen the name, much like Hitler stole the name "socialist" for his fascism.

Don't worry. They're not giving you or Christ a bad name. They're only exposing to all of us just who and what THEY are.

12. Just keep in mind that to nonChristians the distinction can be lost
Particularly if there is not visible vocal opposition to such positions from other Christians.

13. I'm not a Christian and I can tell the difference
However, you do make a valid point. The mainstream Christian churches have been dropping the ball on this stuff for a very long time, probably to avoid offending some of their CINO parishoners. They can't remain silent on this for much longer without losing their credibility as Christian completely.

16. You and I take the time to notice the difference
But the bulk of nonChristians do not concern themself and should not be required to concern themself with the task of identifying the flora and fauna of Christianity. If we stand for a principle we take on the roll of defending and defining that principal. If we do not take on this responsibility then any perversions or misrepresentations that occurr we lose the right to complain about.

17. Has SpongeBob been exposed? (Texarkana Gazette)
Column By ETHEL CHANNON
Assistant Managing Editor

The Christian conservatives I know, for the most part, are bright people, engaged in their faith, trying their best to live out the Gospels in the secular world ... They wonder why others sometimes criticize them as intellectually and spiritually shallow.

Well, it's because of some of the people who speak for them.

The latest illustration is Dr. James Dobson, head of Focus on the Family, who has decided to take on SpongeBob SquarePants. <snip>

Such behavior is why some people smirk and denigrate the place of faith in society.

Thanks for posting it!

BTW, are you from Texarkana? My dad grew up there, and we have tons of family still living there.

19. No. But I've driven through there many times.
And I passed one summer night in a reststop somewhere around there: I shall never forget the mosquitoes.
