Any Mahabharata experts here?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=105x5278082#5281999

On my thread in the Lounge someone mentioned a Mahabharata story about a queen who is brought to the future to see the results of her actions. I'd really love it if someone could place this story and expound on the theology behind it.

1. Not an expert here.
But I do remember my prof. relating the belief that every story is already in the Mahabharata. I was recently relating one thing I ran into in the text, that, as I remember, the main character in the current tale visits an underworld realm that actually has what we would call a reset button! A gem which caused the destruction of the current world and its regeneration. Good luck finding the story. (I'm going to bookmark this thread.)

2. I'm definitely not an expert
and I've never heard of that part, but I doubt that means anything. IIRC, the Mahabharata is eight times as long as the Iliad AND the Odyssey put together, so you can imagine the depth of it.

Anyway, I can give you some links about it that might help:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahabharata
http://bombay.oriental.cam.ac.uk/john/mahabharata/statement.html
http://www.sacred-texts.com/hin/dutt/

(I think this is the entire version, hopefully in English. However, it would take a herculean effort to read it)
http://bombay.oriental.cam.ac.uk/john/mahabharata/statement.html

There was also a movie made about it that was really popular in India. I don't think it's short (go figure), but it might be easier than reading it (although I don't know if it's quality by our non-Bollywood standards).

I hope that helped.
