Christions, Want to make a difference? Post to this site!
There are raging discussions going on at Crosswalk.com. This is a hangout for many fundie Christians. For years die hard neo-con philosophies flourished here, but now many are waking up and there are great discussions going on and Christians eyes are being opened! Yet more non-fundie posters are needed!

If you are a Christian who want's to "take back Christ" from, excuse me, these idiots, who serve self love in the name of Christianity, please participate and help get the word out. This is a place to have an impact.

http://forums.crosswalk.com/Current_Events/forumid_34/tt.htm

PS: Please, be repectful, do not go if you're only intention is to agitate or you are not of the Christian faith, it will detract from work Progressive Christians are doing there.

11. Don't complain then
All I hear on this site are complaints against Christians for "allowing" other Christians to become fascists. At least we are trying to make a difference. All faiths and people need to do their best in the ways they can. And many young Christians go to these sites. They need to hear a different point of view. Is that so wrong?

2. Thanks for pointing this out.
Before I read the thread on Obama as president, I expected to read like a freeper thread on Obama as president. A lot of support for the idea there.

4. UGH!!!!!
Look at this thread... http://forums.crosswalk.com/Homosexuality_-_One_Stop_Thread/m_310107/tm.htm
"Homosexuality...

Are people born that way or if it is something that is learned?

Is it just the act that is sin or is the temptation a sin?

This is the One Stop thread for all discussion that revolves around the issue of homosexuality.

ADMIN'S NOTE :: ATTENTION PLEASE

Please do not use our Community to in any way promote or advocate the acceptability of same-sex unions/marriage, homosexual activity, or homosexual adoption rights."

Seriously thought about going there, even got a screenname, but just this thread alone is enough to make me think again. I'm ok if people believe homosexuality is a sin, but I'm NOT ok with them requiring that EVERY Christian agree with them.

6. Nope, the admins censor everything that they don't agree with.
Every user who posted on that thread anything suggesting that homosexuality isn't condemned in the Bible received a message on the board from the admin stating:

"AMIN'S NOTE :: ATTENTION PLEASE

'Screenname' ,

An email has been sent to your account. If you did not receive it please contact community@salemwebnetwork.com

Please do not reply to this message within the Community.

Please email Community@salemwebnetwork.com with questions, comments, or concerns.

Please do not send me PMs regarding this message."

Followed by the message:

"ADMIN'S NOTE :: ATTENTION PLEASE

Please do not use our Community to in any way promote or advocate the acceptability of same-sex unions/marriage, homosexual activity, or homosexual adoption rights.

Please do not reply to this message within the Community.

Please email Community@salemwebnetwork.com with questions, comments, or concerns.

Please do not send me PMs regarding this message."

And after you see that message with their screenname, that person never again posts in the thread. The good news is that there are some open minded people out there. Bad news is that they are completely censored. I can't deal with a message board like that.

7. I am going to risk being tombstoned for this remark, BUT......
you said;
"And after you see that message with their screenname, that person never again posts in the thread. The good news is that there are some open minded people out there. Bad news is that they are completely censored. I can't deal with a message board like that."

The fact is, you ALREADY ARE dealing with a message board like that.

DU has rules which are clearly spelled out as to acceptable points of view and speech. Freepers and Trolls are routinely dismissed here if they post contrary to established rules.

That website has just as much right to lay down posting rules as DU does.

Even though i feel i have been censored at times by the moderators and admins of this website, i don't feel slighted at all and have contributed toward the operational expenses of DU after such censoring.

8. No, I realize that...
and realize also that DU has similar rules (although I would dare say they aren't so extreme). My issue isn't that they should change their rules necessarily as much as the fact that I cannot post there because my faith would be instantly discredited. They have the right to do whatever they want regarding their board, and I retain the right, especially as a Christian studying to be a minister, to be thoroughly disgusted by it. I just wanted to make people aware of what they might be up against in going to such a website.

12. Well, they are isolate as we are from them, how do we reach them?
As Christians (and this post was specified to the attention of those of the Christian faith), how can one reach and educate if they do not go where the others are at? There is quite a bit of lattitude in discussions, often they do not follow their TOS to the letter. Being tactiful is helpful.

14. My chosen way to reach them...
Edited on Sun Jun-25-06 08:06 AM by melnjones
is by building relationships in real-time. Trust me, I am not isolated from them by any stretch of the imagination...rather, I'm surrounded by them everyday. Both of my jobs are in church or ministry settings, and I'm attending a somewhat conservative seminary. (I say somewhat because while the affiliated congregations and parishoners tend to be fundies, the professors are more open-minded in the seminary.) They (the fundies) truly ARE my Christian brothers and sisters. As far as reaching out to them goes, I've found that once people get to know me, know my heart and devotion to my faith, then the fact that I disagree with them on some of these issues is cause for them to stop and think. If they don't actually know you, they can just write you off as some crazy liberal infiltrator to the website. If they are in community with you, it's a totally different thing. I applaud your efforts to reach out over the internet, but at least as far as that website goes, it's not for me. In this case the serenity prayer says it all.

on edit...
By the way, the persons who were aparently banned from that thread were extremely tactful and diplomatic overall, at least in my opinion.

even if I were still a Christian. They are far too fascist for me.
