Message I received from our minister: about Iraq

Dear Family,

While you're going throughout your activities this weekend, I would encourage you to lift up a prayer for what will take place in Iraq on Sunday. I would like to share part of an email I received from a chaplain named Lyle Shackelford. Maybe you received it too: "I will pray with my soldiers before they leave on their convoys and move outside our installation gates here at Tallil. My soldiers are at the nerve center of the logistic operation to deliver the voting machines and election ballots. They will be driving to and entering the arena of the enemy. This is not a game for them it is a historical mission that is extremely dangerous. No voting machines or ballots. No elections. Your prayer support and God's intervention are needed to give democracy a chance in this war torn country."

If this church wasn't so damn happy and proud that we were at war, I would not have a problem with this. It is just the motives and attitudes these people have shown over the last couple of years. They were throwing joy to the Lord when Saddam was caught and members traded the Iraq War deck of cards. So I have a hard time listening this message.

And I mean real, honest prayers. Not "Oh, Dear Lord, we pray that President Clinton will admit that he is horrible human being and become an anti-abortion zealot".

If this was an impartial person really wanting prayers for our leaders, I would be okay. But there were no prayers for Bill Clinton, and there would have been no prayers for John Kerry either.

Why do you associate with them?

I do still believe in GOD and I still need to worship him on Sunday and my wife was a member of this affiliation when we got married and (enough ands yet) I attend church with her.
As I was telling my daughter this afternoon, because she express that she didn't want to go to a youth group meeting due to the attitude of some of the people there. I said, that we need to keep going and prove to these people that Liberals are Good Christan's. To prove them wrong and that they don't know what they are talking about.
It is sort of a mission to enlighten the misled.

take his flock and all of the other believing Christians he can find and go to Iraq and get on their knees in Baghdad and pray such a powerful prayer for a successful election and an end to the war that it would HAVE to be answered.

They talk a good game about believing so much but I don't see a one of them with enough nerve to go to Iraq armed only with prayer.

If it is not answered, well, maybe the rapture will come for all of them.

I no longer believe in the rapture. Christians better prepare themselves to live with the consequences of what they are unleashing on the world. It ain't the Tribulation, they aren't gonna be "snatched away", but the future looks ugly and grim and they'd better be prepared to deal with it, 'cause they're breaking it and they're gonna own it!

I am so disgusted with these "neo-Christians" that I will not attend church any more. As someone said on DU awhile back (and I keep quoting), "You use religion to sanctify politics, you cheapen religion." Maybe this minister should have paid more attention to the elections in his own country. My opinion now? God is finished with America and all we can do is turn to him for his favor to us as individuals. Try as I may, I cannot get around Bush, his "followers" and the mockery they have made of Christ's gospel. I only hope God will deal with him/them soon and save the world from the evil that Bush and his minions do.

ie "Only a miracle can get democracy into Iraq. It's impossible for the US to do it". But I bet he wouldn't dare say that from his pulpit.
