Islanders draft party sold out
Too bad you know who is not here to rub it in. Ya know, all those idiots supporting a losing franchise while at the same time claiming they can't draw. As the usual argument goes.

1. What do you mean "sold" out?
Edited on Thu Jun-18-09 02:57 PM by Upton
It's my understanding the tickets are free

The Islanders in 2009 were dead last in the NHL in attendance, behind even Atlanta and Phoenix...too bad they can't give away enough free tickets to fill up Nassau Coliseum.

2009 NHL Attendance... Average Per Game

31. NY Islanders 13,773

Edit: A quick search revealed that besides the draft party tickets being free, there are giveaways too.. along with games and activities for kids, locker room tours, sales of game used equipment, a clearance of fan gear etc.

http://islanders.nhl.com/team/app/?service=page&page=NHLPage&id=32045

Your post gave the distinct and erroneous impression that a bunch of rabid hard core Islander fans were paying good money just to watch the draft....obviously that's not the case.

2. Maybe
Every ticket that was available to be given away were given away.

Oh, and every single one of em attending is a die hard. Casual fans do not attend draft parties even if the tickets are free. So the point still sticks. Nice try though, did you confer with Cboy before offering such a ridiculous refutation?

By percentage of seats sold in their own building, the Isles were not dead last in 2009. They have the smallest building in the league. Even if they sold out every game they would not get above 23rd in the list which is LA.

Arguing avg attendance in this case just goes to show how little you know.

I love how you like to use the attendance arguement and don't know what you are doing when you use it.

4. Now we're getting somewhere
as I see that you now admit the draft party tickets were given away, not "sold" as you originally claimed...making the title of this ridiculous thread nothing short of a bald faced lie....but enough of that, on to something really important..

NHL 2009 Percentage of seats sold:

28. NY Islanders-84.5%

29. Florida-81.2%

30. Atlanta-78.9%

There see, you're no longer last....you're 28th...that must make you feel much better.

5. "Sold out" usually just means no more tickets available
I can't believe you are arguing semantics.

At this point I'm willing to bet that you are Cboy or at least posted that response for him.

I can't imagine anyone posting such a dumb argument.

85% of all tickets sold for a team dead last in the NHL is a solid figure. I bet if the average price was ten dollars less (San Jose territory) the percentage would be higher.

7.  I beg to differ
85% is definitely NOT a solid figure, particularly for a franchise with the rich history of the Islanders..I mean, they actually finished below Phoenix in percentage of seats sold..that tells you something right there.

I thought you might like to see how the other half lives, since your Islanders are down in the low rent district so to speak..

Chicago-111.2%

Ottawa-105.9%

Minnesota-102.8%

Toronto-102.7%

Pittsburgh-102.6%

Rangers-102.3%

Vancouver-101.1%

Philadelphia-100.2%

Sharks-100.0%

Edmonton-100.0%

Calgary-100.0%

Montreal-100.0%

These are all the clubs at 100% and above (Detroit is at 99%), all are solid hockey towns...Of particular note, besides the Sharks, is the other NY team, the Rangers...Both on and off the ice, the Islanders are a struggling franchise, you can try to spruce it up with your disingenuous spin, but I don't think there's much doubt about that.

9. Cognitive dissonance
It's so amusing and you are quite the specimen.

The Islanders were dead last with an avg ticket price of $51 and sold 85% of the house.

THe Sharks were the presidents trophy winner with an average ticket price of $39 selling 100% of the house.

Figure it out. I've actually offered facts and real analysis. You've cherry picked.

Either way,Cboy, you're whole argument on this thread thus far has been a non sequitor.

How's that San Jose draft party going? I hope you have fun watching what the Isles do with your pick.

14. That doesn't work either
of the 12 teams that I listed with 100.0% or above percentage of seats sold, only 2, Ottawa and SJ, had a lower average ticket price than the Islanders...Ottawa was but 2 cents lower and the Sharks were $5.77 lower...not $12 as you earlier suggested.

Look, why don't you just admit the Islanders are having problems? This ticket price argument is really pathetic..for example, the average Ranger ticket price was $51.45..$2.61 higher than the Islanders..didn't seem to hurt them none.

And here you are claiming that FREE TICKETS to a draft party are no big deal. Not to mention it being on Long Island in the summer time.

Edited on Thu Jun-18-09 09:07 PM by inthebrain
More than $10 less than the Islanders that season.

This season it was $43.07

The Isles were at $48.84.

The avg ticket price in San Jose is still more than $5 less than the worst team in the league.

As a matter of fact, the Sharks have not one season where their avg ticket prices were over $50.

As your usual. YOU FAIL!!!!!

25. We're talking about 08-09 not 07-08
what happened to your earlier claim of a $12 difference in ticket prices?..I believe you said it was $51-$39..

Must have been quite a shock to find out that my figures, per usual, were exactly correct...a difference of only $5.77 and still the Sharks fill up 15.5% more of their seats.

Better luck next time.

34. Their attendance is tied to their lack of on ice success
as well as high ticket prices.

You've supported my argument.

Now you're just fighting for the last word.

Again, my point still stands and is supported by the fact that there are now over 17,000 people attending the draft party. That's over capacity for an NHL draft taking place on LONG ISLAND IN THE SUMMER TIME. In case you don't get the point of the all caps, there's plenty of stuff to do on Long Island at this time of year that doesn't cost of a dime. Many of it involving free booze, music and Barbecues.

Not to mention some of the best beaches in the country.

Are you trying to posit that the Islanders with a modicum of success, just like anyother team, can't sell out their building?

36. This is what I'm saying
the average NHL ticket price is 49.66, 82 cents higher than the Islanders average price($48.84)..I think we can agree that puts the Islanders right in the middle of the pack. Yet they are 30th in average attendance and 28th in percentage of seats sold...now what's wrong with that picture?

Now if your blaming the Islanders lack of attendance on their poor showing on the ice, just say so, I can understand that..instead of making all these crazy arguments that have absolutely no logic to them.

38. My argument has plenty of logic
Yours on the other didn't.

The main crux of my argument on this thread is that it's commonly stated, by lazy attendance jumkies, that there is no fan interest in the Islanders on Long Island. That's just not true.

And using the arguement here that the tickets are free misses the mark, (which you did). The fact is that the event is for the draft. All it is is Snow announcing a players name at a podium. Casual fans are not going to see that.

Secondly, using average numbers in attendance claiming they are last in the league is lying with numbers and does nothing to detract from the central point; There is tons of fan interest in the isles. The colliseum seats just over 16,000 people. It's the smallest in the league. If they sold out every game they would still be 23 or below in avg attendance.

85% for a team that finished dead last is really solid. You dissagreed with that as well.

You're argument had no point or coheisvness at all. You finally decided to offer a substantial point AFTER everything else you threw at the wall failed to stick.

It's the same obtuse silly logic in both their arguments.

When they can't attack the central point of any given arument they play semantics and become extremely obtuse. Meanwhile they don't realize that the central point of the argument is left standing and they wind up arguing to support it BY ACCIDENT!!!!

I'm doing it more as a favor.

I don't even post there much anymore.

It's pretty much anything goes over there. Not much moderation as opposed to this site. I figured it would give people here a different option to post at as well. This place can be suffocating with all the censorship and rules. I don't even post here with regularity. I come in for stints here and there.

Unmoderated sites have their share of riff raff. They also have some damn good posters.

Politically I am more socialisticly inclined so this place doesn't entirely suit my politics. I generally just discuss issues here. If I attack a candidate it's generally on an issue on not on that latest talking point.

This place has it's share of idiots but it also has it's share of really good posters as well.
