Lewis HR ball propels Giants
Starting for the first time in eight games, the much maligned Fred Lewis hit a 2 run homer with two outs in the 6th inning and his team down a run. From there the Giants bullpen preserved the lead in what finished as a 6-4 win ending their losing streak at 3 games.

One problem the Giants may have to address is Randy Johnson, who BTW is going to be honored for his 300th victory before Saturday night's game, at 45 years old he runs out of gas every start right around the 5th inning..it happened last night in the 6th. This puts a strain on the bullpen and has cost the Giants several victories.

The Dodgers won the series anyway. They have done that a few times this season--lost the first game of a series and came back to win the series.

I'll tell you this....I can't wait for the Giants/Brewers series next week as they battle it out to be the other playoff team that wasn't good enough to win their division (sometimes referred to as the "wild card").

these are all wild card winners that were "good enough" to win the WS.

1997 Florida Marlins
2002 Anaheim Angels
2003 Florida Marlins
2004 Boston Red Sox

Also, the wild card winner often finishes with a better record than at least one division winner.

BTW, I'm glad to see you acknowledge the Giants are in the playoff hunt...quite unexpected from your point of view isn't it?

about what a good addition RJ was to the Giants this year before the season began.

I guess you guys didn't want to listen to me when I mentioned he was on the last legs of his career. As you have already admitted, he has cost them several games this years, and will probably cost them so more.

I think that's a bit of an exaggeration...cboy and I were rationally laying out the facts and both weighing and pointing out the advantages and disadvantages of having Johnson on the staff.

I still think signing Randy has been an overall plus for the Giants. For one he's like having another pitching coach. For another, his performance....in his last 6 starts Johnson has gone 3-1 while not allowing more than 4 ERs in any of those efforts. The problem is he's only gone as far as 7 innings once all season, he's usually done after 5.. Unfortunately this puts a strain on the bullpen and several times leads have been blown.

it's funny you should bring up Faux News...seeing as how they are undoubtedly the favorite media outlet of NASCAR fans. Don't you feel a little uncomfortable enjoying a "sport" that consists of nothing but a bunch of rednecks turning left?
