Onyewu signs with AC Milan

Good for Gooch, cashing in after a nice run at the Confed Cup. here's to hoping he can break into the first team for a bunch of games this season. He's the first American field player to sign with a club that is routinely in the quarters of the Champions League, and the first to sign with a Serie A club in a long, long time.

They're in the CL often enough.

but then, when's the last time Rangers made it out of the Group Stage? Cervi just joined Celtic as well, but they don't make it far either. while Group stage is nice, the real World Cup level experience is in the knockout stages, when you have to go into a place like Camp Nou and win or go home in front of 100,000 hostile fans. that's as close as you can get to the World Cup in professional football.
