3. This was all Barry Zito
after the Giants staff had given up only 4 runs in the previous 3 games of this series, Zito comes out today and gives up 9 earned in 4 1/3. I don't know what it is with him, just when you think he's got it straightened out he pulls something like this.

4. Do you notice a trend with the Giants when they are in position to sweep a series?
Just sayin.

6. The Giants have won 7 of their last 10
the Mets have won 4 of their last 10 and currently sit 6.5 games behind the Wild Card leading Giants.

Just sayin..

8. I'm not exactly boasting that my Mets are having a good season right now
Edited on Sun Jul-12-09 07:03 PM by inthebrain
Am I?

What I am saying is what I said last week, the Giants have a hard time closing out series. In their last three series they've blown the final games of those series, in blow out fashion. That last game of a series really tells you how well a team is gonna perform in pressure cooker situations. Not team likes to get swept and whenever you in the first two of the three game set your opposition puts on a strong effort in that final game to prevent the emabarasssment of a sweep.

Mets had that very same problem in 07. They didn't have a killer instinct and it cost them at the end of year. Those backend losses you are taking through the first half of this season begin to add up. Especially down the stretch as the teams that have no shot start playing spoiler and take more games from you; They are playing with no pressure as you have all the pressure in the world.

Also, some of the other teams your fighting with for position start making roster improvements.

Those losses add up.

They sting at the end of the year.

9. There is another trend that I have noticed, also.
It's called 55 years without a World Series Championship. It keeps repeating and repeating and repeating and repeating.

5. All joking aside, you guys are in great shape going into the break.
Zito is a question mark, but overall I like what I see from the team. Like cboy said, the offense is the real surprise, and so far you guys are knocking the ball around well. Couple that with the pitching you've had and things are looking interesting for the 2nd half. God knows I'd rather see the Giants win than the Dodgers.
