Wasn't anabolic steroids but still steroids used to treat pain and inflamation. Cartainly enhanced his performance in 04.

How is his use any different than the reason Mar MCguire and Arroyo used andro.

It's not an anabolic but it is a performance enhancer of sorts given that it's a powerful antinflamatory. I object to the principle that athletes are allowed access to meds that are a last line med for everyone else and first line med for them cause they are hurt.

Only difference is that it is legal but it's effects are just as damaging. If you're injured to the point of needing a cortisone shot you probably shouldn't be playing sports. You should be resting.

As far as that goes, the medical profession and MLB need not allow this treatment if they choose not to, but they do, so athletes are sort of obligated to do everything they legally can to get back on the field. An athlete has the right to refuse the cortisone shot, but when you're making as much money as they do, there's a lot of pressure on them to get the shot and get back on the field, even if they don't think that's the best thing for them. It's not really a benefit to the athlete to get pressured into getting the shot, it's the ownership that benefits to the detriment of the athlete's health. If you take that decision out of the hands of athletes and sports medical professional (ie. if you get a cortisone shot, you can't play for 15 games), players will go on the DL instead of playing on pain-killers/anti-inflammatory meds and maybe get the rest they need.

My point with my first post is that one is legal and (for better or worse) widely used, while the other is not legal, and therefore there's really no comparison.
