Smoltz is toast. Tazawa is zowa.
Junichi Tazawa, the 22-year-old Japanese right-hander whose offseason signing by Boston raised eyebrows in both hemispheres, has been called up by the Red Sox from Triple-A Pawtucket.

To make room, the Red Sox designated John Smoltz for assignment, one day after the veteran right-hander allowed eight runs in 3 1/3 innings to the Yanks for his fifth loss in eight starts this season.

And another great bites the dust.

1. Thank goodness
Tazawa couldn't be worse than Smoltz and we can't afford to lose 20% of our games right now.

2. Smoltz should be a reliever...the Sox' relievers suck now...
...he can last at least 2 innings, the other fools can't.

3. I'm not sure why Smoltz stayed so long
His first start he got smacked around by the Nats..

4. His second start he pitched well only to have the relievers give up 10 runs...
...Smoltz isn't great, but the real problem is the relievers.

5. They should have kept him in the bullpen.
He would have been fine for 2 innings. Just not a starter anymore.
