Cain to contact Wright.....express regret
Edited on Sat Aug-15-09 09:32 PM by Upton
The Giants' glee was muted by their concern for Wright, the popular four-time National League All-Star.

Cain clearly looked worried as he crouched between the pitcher's mound and home plate and gazed at Wright as Mets trainers tended to him. He later asked Mets catcher Brian Schneider for an update on Wright's condition. After the game, Cain said that he planned to contact Wright to express regret.

"It was nice to see that he walked off the field," Cain said. "Hopefully he'll be all right."

"We felt terrible," Bochy said, recounting the widespread feeling in the Giants' dugout. "That's the last thing you want to see. Unfortunately in this game, pitches get away."

Several Giants (63-53) pointed out that with a runner on first base, nobody out and the teams locked in a scoreless tie, Cain had no reason to hit Wright purposely. The Mets knew this, too.

"I've known Matt Cain for a long time," Mets right fielder Jeff Francoeur said. "Obviously, I'm sure that no one feels worse than he does."

"I don't think he had any intention to hit him, not at all," Santana said.

Cain, Santana, the Giants, the Mets..they all agree the hitting of David Wright was an accident. I don't know what more can be said, except lets hope, that by reading this, the emotional "Matt Cain is a piece of shit" crowd gains a little perspective on the incident.

1. Oh! Well Cain didn't want to see any blood!
Said Cain: “It was nice to see him walk off the field. It was definitely a situation where you hoped there’s no blood. I’ll see if I can get a hold of him tomorrow.”

I'm beginning to agree with InTheBrain that Cain is heartless. Wonder what will happen tomorrow?

2. I'll see if I can get ahold of him Tomorrow
Doesn't sound like he's making it a priority.

That means, "I'll get to it if I get to it".

I'd like to see him explain his tip of the cap. More than likely it will be more a canned response from PR.

3. Cain probably already has
though I notice in your response you expressly avoided the remarks made by Francouer and Santana, so lets go over them again..shall we?

"I've known Matt Cain for a long time," Mets right fielder Jeff Francoeur said. "Obviously, I'm sure that no one feels worse than he does."

"I don't think he had any intention to hit him, not at all," Santana said.

I guess in your mind they must be in on the dreadful conspiracy..all meant to inflict pain and suffering upon little Davey.

Perhaps it would be best if you stepped back from this issue for a day or so...your illogical emotionalism is embarrassing to watch.

5. Mets manager Jerry Manuel would like to speak now..
"You don't want to see that happen. I think Cain was just trying to pitch the ball up and in, and it just got away from him. I don't think or believe there was any intent on his part."

8. Like I care about your opinion
horse lover..LOL

Wright is going to be okay and the pitch was unintentional.

So, I think it's about time certain members of the sports forum knocked off the hand wringing.

13. Props to you for starting a thread that so clearly got under Upton's skin.
You should start another grave dancing thread and make his forehead vein pop. :)

14. This is the second time in 18 chances AB that Cain has beaned Wright
Wright is 8-18 against Cain for a .444 average.

Cain has already stated that he was out to plunk him or at least bursh him back. He went with a fastball to do it. Even more fucked up is that Wright sets up AWAY from the plate.

Cain is an asshole.

And there was no need for the sarcastic tip of the cap after doing the deed.

15. I've been watching the Mets telecast this morning
to check out their views on the incident, and even Keith Hernandez has stated several times that in his opinion the hitting was unintentional.

So, we've heard from Manuel, Santana, Franceour, and Hernandez...nobody has suggested there was any intent involved.

In fact, NO Met has made such a claim.

16. It's New York Douche
It's called PR!!!

Guys don't call out other players like this in the press.

Dale Hunter and Darcy Tucker were given the same treatment after the Turgeon and Peca incidents. The players were VERY tight lipped about it. Same with Rocker.

If Keith Herandez was on the bench when that happened and Cain pulled a stunt like that with Hojo, he would have been one of the first out on the field to kick Cain's ass. That goes to show how much you know about Keith Hernandez.

17. You'll have to do much better than that
as you can't name one member of the Mets organization who thinks there was any intent involved...so you resort to excuses, again.

As usual, when you and I disagree, I have all the evidence on my side...

18. Nope, I grew in New York
I know how things work between players, the guys in the booth and the press.

Everything they've said VS what is being done on the field points to the fact that they are not happy with Cain.

He's gonna get his.

You really don't have a clue as to how things work around here.
