Reggie Jackson vs Jim Thome
Thome tied Mr October in home runs yesterday. If Thome retires and enters the HOF without ever being linked to steroids, does that mean that he was a better HR hitter than Reggie? Are clean players from the recent steroid era more impressive than old school sluggers or do the smaller ballparks and (IMO) weaker pitching even it out?

1. Reggie
played in an era where the big power guys barely hit 30. So Reggie's number is much more impressive. I'd still vote Thome into the hall of fame.

2. That is true.
Reggie held the Angels season HR record with 39 until the roid era IIRC. I think that smaller ballparks and diluted pitching make the old school numbers more impressive and the roid heads just make their own numbers not believable.

3. Mr. October is Mr. fucking October for a reason.
Playoff performance factors into the equation.

5. And Thome's isn't? He is consistently lauded by other MLBers as being one of the nicest guys in the
game.

11. I thought your arguement was "personality" versus "performance". Perhaps I read your post wrong.
It seems to me you are saying that Reggie was a better performer (i.e. player) than Thome. Sure. Nicer guy, Thome.

7. Reggie delivered better in the clutch
Thome will get into the HOF on numbers, but his impact hasn't been as great as Jackson's.

9. I agree.
There are some things that statistics alone cannot show. Reggie coming up to the plate in October created an excitement that deserves recognition.

18. There's pretty much not a wasted second in that film.
Every line or scene is a gag in itself. I saw that at the drive in with a friend. Major League was the first movie and we thought that was hilarious, but it was nothing compared to how hard we laughed during Naked Gun. I was almost glad when it ended just so I could catch my breath.

19. I went to a swanky, downtown theatre in Toronto to see Major League, with an Indians fan...
those first shots of Milwaukee's County Stadium broke our hearts! That wasn't Cleveland's Municipal Stadium!!! The orange fencing was a dead giveaway!

10. Reggie was way better
Too bad he's a complete asshole off the field. And a horrible announcer. He tried to do color for the A's for a while but he was terrible and they had to fire him.

12. It's a different game now. The ball is different. The parks are smaller. Comparison isn't fair to
either.
