US Open Tennis predictions?
Men: I don't think you can write off Andy Murray, but I wish you could. What a putz. Hopefully, he will choke like he usually does in the big ones. Andy Roddick, if he doesn't have Juan-Martin del Porto or Federer in his draw, could get to the final...del Porto may have a breakthrough. I don't think Nadal has a chance...he was off too long and he was in the zone for about a year and that's why he won, not that his game was so vastly surperior (except on clay) to others. Tough to get that kind of momentum back. Roger Federer is still probably the favorite, even though he lost last week. He is always at his best at the Slams, and if he plays with the confidence he had at Wimbledom, knowing that he can eventually pull it out, he'll win.

Women: Serena is probably the favorite, as she always plays her best in slams. Safina will choke, sadly, and there are about 4-5 other ladies who could make the final, but none seems overwhelming at this point. I think Jelena Jankovic is peaking, Maria Sharapova is doing better, and Kim Clijsters appears to be making strides. So, if Serena is upset in an early round, it's anyone's tournament.

3. You ain't gonna get it from me, that's for sure.
I actually used to watch a lot of tennis back in the Conners/McEnroe/Borg days, and got into women's tennis when the Williams sisters hit the scene. I even played a decent game of tennis. There's just too many sports vying for my attention now.

4. I was a really big fan when Martina and Chris were the stars...
...like Chris said on SNL, the comparisons to SNL and tennis are enormous...one of which is that the popularity for both peaked in the late 1970's...how true.

5. I predict that...
...because of the U.S. Open the 7 train will be packed during the Mets/Cubs series (Sept. 4 - 6) and that I'll end up having to ride standing up the whole way from Grand Central Terminal to Citi Field.

Oh yeah - Roddick and Sharapova will win.

6. Andy maybe, no to Sharapova...
...she'll do ok, but not recuperated enough to win a big one again.

8. You don't give her enough credit...she was out a full year with an injury...
...no way she can comptee this year, but it's too early to tell if a FORMER #1 and THREE-TIME Grand Slam Champ is done.

10. I think the men's finally has more parity...
...if a few of the women finally break through and win a big one, that will help the game.
