Giants crush Rockies 6-3

The Giants moved back to within 1 game of the Wild Card leading Rockies with a key win in the first game of the series.

Jonathon Sanchez went 5 strong innings for his 6th win and Aaron Rowand added a 3 run homer.

Of note, Jeremy Affeldt got Todd Helton to ground into a bases loaded DP in the 7th inning...Affeldt leads MLB in DPs induced by a reliever with 16.

The Giants are now 5-3 on their 11 game road trip.

aspirin is more like it, the Rockies are a real pain. Though the Giants held what would generally be considered a healthy lead for most of the game, at Coors you never feel the Rockies are out of it. Sure enough, for the last 3 innings they had runners all over the bases and brought the tying run to the plate in the 9th, thankfully Giants relievers always had an answer.

3. I guess they forgot the answer tonight

14-11 Rockies. Giants relievers went 3 innings and allowed 8 earned runs and 6 walks. OUCH.

Meanwhile the Dodgers sterling pitching staff has allowed only 3 runs in 27 innings against the Cubs this series.
