Brett Favre: What he said, what he meant
Brett Christopherson column: Favre's talk can't hide his meaning
AUGUST 23, 2009

Say what you want about Brett Favre, but there's no disputing the guy really does have Hall of Fame stuff.

When it comes to stretching the truth, that is.

==

What he said: "I hadn't talked to (Vikings coach Brad Childress) in three weeks. He said, 'Just giving it another shot and seeing if you want to take that chance.' … I felt like if they were willing to take that chance, I was too."

What he meant: "Chilly told me the team had broken camp, so I didn't have to reduce my greatness by cramming my golden self into one of those ridiculous dorm rooms. I mean, have you seen how cramped that space is? Where was I supposed to display my MVP trophies and all of that other bling I've earned the past 18 seasons? Plus, me, Chilly and Zygi had all agreed months back that I could miss the two-a-days and the first preseason game. And, of course, that Jay Glazer dude kind of put a quiver in everybody's liver, as we like to say down in the Kiln. So the time had come to end this charade and get back to work."

What he said: "Everyone who I've talked to — former players, coaches and just people in general — said, 'If you were to go back, this is a perfect fit. It really is.' "

What he meant: "They were dumb enough to offer an almost 40-year-old quarterback who would rather peddle Wranglers than pore over film, a guy who would rather spend the offseason tossing footballs to a bunch of awestruck teens, a guy who is 3-7 in his last 10 playoff games, a guy who's coming off surgery on his passing arm and has been found to have a slight tear in the rotator cuff of his throwing shoulder a two-year, $25 million deal? Seriously? Where do I sign?"
