Who's a college football fan?
I AM! Season begins this week. How's your team going to do? Tell me about your team, no matter what division they play in. For me, it's all about the Wyoming Cowboys. We've got a new coach. We hired Missouri's OC, Dave Christensen, and he's changed the culture around the program. Realistically, if we make 6-6 and a bowl, it'll be a wildly successful season. Go 'Pokes!

1. Me! My team is the Alabama Crimson Tide
I think that we will do well this year, but I don't think that we will go undefeated during the regular season like we did last year. I think that Ole Miss might hand it to us this year. After all, they just about did last year!

All in all, I think we will finish 11-1 or 10-2. I think we'll take the SEC West again and have a rematch against Florida.

Roll Tide Roll!!!

2. Cool.
I don't think Ole Miss should be a problem for the 'Tide, unless they've improved a LOT. Hell, we swept them in a home and home a few seasons ago, and we're "lowly" Wyoming from the Mountain West....but then again, you know about the Mountain West after last season's Sugar Bowl, eh?

8. Ouch. Yes. Yes, we do.
That loss is still smarting. I got so sick of all of the fans who were pissed off about having to play "lowly" Utah. Saban warned the team not to overlook them. They came out flat and uninspired and the Utes spanked their asses.

I still love 'em, though.

As for Ole Miss - remember, they beat Florida at Florida. The Right Reverend Houston Nutt has those boys believin' they can do anything. They look good again this year.

3. University of Arkansas
with a new QB this year who had a great preseason, a transfer from Michigan and a first team all conference running back. If the defense shows up we might be in Hog Heaven. And Petrino is no longer a freshman head coach at UA.

9. I think that things are looking up for Arkansas.
I think that they have a good shot at a pretty decent bowl this year. Petrino has kept his head down and has concentrated on recruiting and working the team. That's a good sign - a lot better than say, oh, Lane Kiffen, who has run his mouth instead of concentrating on his game plan. :eyes:

They did okay last year. Went to a bowl, won. I would like to think they will compete for the ACC Atlantic title....Their QB last year Chris Turner was looking pretty good last year and they say it takes a whole year to learn the Fridge's system...

10. The ACC as a whole is coming up
North Carolina is looking pretty good. Maryland might have some good competition in that conference this year.

The ACC is my 2nd favorite conference after the SEC, of course. :)

I do like Wyoming and root for them except when they play Colorado State. I was born in Ft Collins and CSU is one of my favorite teams. I also like Colorado as my favorite team out of the Big 12.

6. Hey man!
It's cool you pull for ASU's former conference mates. The PAC-8 stealing the Arizona schools really changed the WAC, and led 20 odd years later to the MWC's formation. It's a shame you root for the Lambs over the good guys, but if you were born in the Fort, I'll give you a pass. :hi: Did you ever attend a Border War or Rocky Mountain Showdown? Front Range football is pretty good, with CU, CSU, UW, and Air Force.

I haven't been to Loveland(Just south of Ft Collins), Colorado since 2003 and 2000 and both times were in the summer. I'd love to and it is something I'd definately want to do. I do try to catch the games on TV whenever possible.

That's when they play my Sooners :)

About the Canes' schedule, though, I can't remember any team having a stretch of games quite that tough to start the season. Back in 2000 Oklahoma played Texas, Kansas State, and Nebraska in back-to-back-to-back weeks, and all three were ranked in the top 10, but that was well into October.

with an inexperienced line and a young receiving corps and what could be a pretty tough schedule overall. But with Stoops on the sideline one always knows one has a chance to be competitive ("in a good way" as Stoops would say).

14. The #22 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes, TransitJohn.
Been out here in Iowa City 15 years, now. The state motto here is " you're either born here or hiding from something". This is year #12 of being a Hawkeye season ticket holder. One of the top schools in the country for tailgating. The best time of the year. By far. We should go bowling. A tough as hell road sked, but barring injury, we'll do ok.

The Oklahoma Sooners are my team, but I'm just a fan of the sport in general.

The Cowboys have a pretty big home game the second week of the season--should be one of the biggest games ever at War Memorial, I'd think. A tough game, no doubt, but should be a fun environment, at least :)

38. How 'Bout Them Dawgs!!
There's no telling how my Georgia Bulldogs will do. We've got a pretty tough schedule this year - Oklahoma State, LSU, Florida, and Georgia Tech are all opponents. Add the rest of the SEC grind and Arizona State to that, and it's a rough schedule.

How well we will do depends on a number of issues...

1. Will our injured players (we had 22 season-ending injuries last year) play like their old selves? That list includes our projected starting left offensive tackle, the guy who took the spot over for him when he was injured, and our best defensive tackle. If this answer comes up "yes," we will be a very tough team on both lines of scrimmage.

2. Will a dominant defensive end emerge? Except for last year, UGA has had at least one dominant defensive end for some time - Charles Grant, David Pollack, Will Thompson, Charles Johnson, Quentin Moses, and I'm sure Florida and Hawaii fans remember Marcus Howard, who sacked Tim Tebow and Colt Brennan a combined 5 times. This one's a complete mystery, but UGA has a very strong interior DL, which may make things easier on the DEs.

3. How will Joe Cox do? Cox was an Elite 11 quarterback and rescued the Dawgs from a major upset at the hands of Colorado in 2006. The team is very solidly behind him. There's no telling, though, how he will perform as the full-time starter - but someone could be a very good quarterback and still ride the pine behind a #1 draft pick.

4. Will a tailback emerge? Richard Samuel, a 6-2, 224-pound sophomore, is the #1 TB right now following a hamstring injury to Caleb King. I think Samuel's performance will be dictated to a large extent by the OL as he is a powerful, fast running back, but doesn't have a lot of wiggle and hasn't shown the ability to make a good or decent play out of a bad one as Knowshon Moreno did so often.

If the answers to these questions come up yes, yes, well, and yes - then Georgia will be a Top 10 team. If not... things could get rough.

40. Yep, it's tough.
I will say this, though: a tough opener at least has the virtue of dispelling illusions. And Georgia has actually done better under Mark Richt when opening with a good team. To wit:

2001 - opened with Arkansas State and went 8-5.

2002 - opened with Clemson and went 13-1 with an SEC championship.

2003 - opened with Clemson and went 10-3 and went to the SEC championship game.

2004 - opened with Georgia Southern and went 10-2, but this team didn't win its division after being a darkhorse for the national title

2005 - opened with Boise State and went 10-3, winning the SEC

2006 - opened with Western Kentucky and went 9-4

2007 - opened with Oklahoma State and went 11-2, finishing ranked #2

2008 - opened with Georgia Southern and went 10-3, but it was definitely considered underachieving.
