Former Cowboy Eugene Lockhart indicted, arrested for mortgage fraud

A former Dallas Cowboys linebacker was indicted Thursday on federal charges stemming from a $20.5 million mortgage fraud scheme he and eight others allegedly ran in the Dallas area, federal officials announced.

The multi-count indictment against Eugene Lockhart -- a member of "America's Team Mortgage" -- and the eight other North Texans was returned by a federal grand jury earlier this week but was unsealed Thursday morning after Lockhart and another man were arrested by FBI agents, according to a news release from U.S. Attorney James T. Jacks.

Lockhart, 48, of Carrollton, and co-defendant Lendell Beckham, 50, were scheduled to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeff Kaplan on Thursday. Six other defendants are expected to surrender to the FBI by Friday. One defendant is serving a federal sentence on unrelated charges.

Lockhart and the eight other defendants are charged with one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and wire fraud from 2001 to 2005. The others include Bryan J. Moorman, 67; William Randolph Tisdale, 45; Hubert Jones III, 39; Patricia Ortega Suarez, 55; Suzette Switzer Hinds, 45; Michael Anthony Caldwell, 49; and Donna Lois Kneeland....
