2. I'm a BCS hater, I can't wait for all these big name schools
to have at least one loss and hear all the bickering, about what loss was the best, or what conference/out of conference schedule was the best/worst.

If UT/UF lose at least one game its going to be mighty interesting to see all these biased BCS talking heads spin who should be in the National Championship game.

:) Btw, I'm pulling for you guys to beat OU, but after that, I'm hoping you guys at least lose one as well...sorry.

3. That just encourages the argument
Edited on Thu Sep-24-09 11:20 PM by JonLP24
that you have nothing to worry about if you go undefeated. What will encourage the most change is to have at least 4 teams go undefeated and it's possible if at least one team doesn't fuck up in their own conference. That's what I'm rooting for.

4. I think its the same side of the coin
if you got 4 teams with 0 losses, or 4 teams with 1 what exactly is the difference? The discussion I believe will be the same, either way.

What I think will happen eventually, is that a good number of "big name" schools will get screwed and start pushing for a playoff. With the BCS you can screw over the smaller programs but when big programs are involved it gets a lot more convoluted.

Like last year, with UT getting the snub with OU going to the NC game. I'm sure there were a lot of UT folks(the powers that be) who were pretty pissed off. If you get big programs like UT, USC, OSU(ohio), and others to push change, it might happen.

Or the year before with LSU a two game loser going to play an OSU squad who's toughest game was probably a weak Michigan team(can't recall for certain), with OU, UT and some other schools getting passed over for the media darling LSU.

If there was a playoff system, I can finally pick a favorite team, its one of my dreams....:D

12. To answer your question
Edited on Fri Sep-25-09 12:37 PM by JonLP24
If you have 4 or more teams that are undefeated no one can simply say, we'll if you go undefeated you have nothing to worry about which is what they have been saying the past several years when a 1-loss team is snubbed. I also recall Mack Brown saying this about his own team - Texas.

Say you have an undefeated team from the Big East, Pac-10(only 3 undefeated left), Big 10, SEC, Big 12, ACC, and throw Boise St and a undefeated MAC(That's 8 but I'm rooting for at LEAST 4) then that creates a shit storm where no one can say, hey if you just went undefeated you wouldn't have to worry about being snubbed.

As far as the rest of what you have to say I'm with you.

20. hmm, I really don't see the difference
Edited on Fri Sep-25-09 01:55 PM by petersond
either way though, if you got zero losses, or 1. I can see them arguing about which loss was the worst and what not, if all the teams had one loss. With the teams having zero losses, OOC games would come into effect, these idiot spin doctors will state that their conference is the best since sliced bread, etc etc....

In your scenario the Big 12, Pac 10, SEC, Big 10 would definitely clown on the Acc/Big East for being a weak conference blah blah blach. After the ACC/Big East are pitied away, the SEC/Big 12 would team up and clown the Big 10, Pac 10 will be silent....eventually the talking heads will have clowned out the Big 10.

Now the Big 12/SEC start clowning on the Pac 10, how USC is the only team ever worth a damn and blah blah blah, their OOC was weak, they played Wyoming, while OU played TCU or some such bs. And the talking heads get what they want, a Big 12/SEC match up...which is where I think it will go this year, either Ala/UF vs. UT/OU because I believe thats what the talking heads WANT the most for this year.

I can't wait for a play off, even if they start off with the top 6 or 8...damn, I want to see these teams play one another, instead of just "imagining" it....

21. The debate who should be in or not is not what I'm talking about
The big difference that I see is no one can say if I(Meaning a coach of a one loss team) or you just went undefeated you'd have nothing to worry about. With multiple undefeated teams then that goes away and they will have no choice to have a playoff. We have had one loss teams for every BCS Championship game except for a few and nothing has changed, in fact they extended the contract. There is this belief for BCS schools that if they go undefeated they're in, now if there are 4 or more that belief will go away and no one can fault any of them for losing because they all won. That is the difference, everything else will be the same. This is the longest I ever argued with a moderator. :scared:

22. hmm,
so essentially if they go undefeated it takes away one of their many talking points, thats the purpose of having the team go undefeated. Hmm, I suppose it would be nice, but I've seen them dance around that before I think...

My memory isn't that good, especially with names, but wasn't it like 5 years ago that we did have 3 or 4 undefeated teams, and two of them got snubbed, one was Utah and Auburn, while the other two got into the NC, I'm thinking 03 or so...

I don't consider this an argument btw, and me being a moderator doesn't make a difference, if I'm wrong, I'm wrong...:silly:

I just wish I could pick a fave college team, I got two in mind, have had two in mind for decades...wish I could root for them.

23. I think it was Texas, USC, and Auburn BCS teams(Not 100% on this one)
Edited on Fri Sep-25-09 02:19 PM by JonLP24
That is why I said at least 4 but preferably more BCS teams. The Utah's and Boise St's don't get respect when they go undefeated so that is why I'm focusing mostly on BCS teams for that case but I'm rooting for a Boise St and a MAC team. Either way controversy will help.

On edit/ Colorado St is 3-0 and they're my favorite team from the MWC but if they magically go undefeated they certainly won't get any respect.

24. Its hard for me to remember,
I definitely know Auburn/Utah was in the mix though, but I think, we are both wanting to get the BCS to do the same thing...

In your scenario I think you want the big schools to get pissed, and help push a play off system of some sort because you believe there will be no legitimate reason to keep out the undefeated teams of the NC game.

In my scenario, albeit they all have 1 loss, is essentially the same. I just figure with all these big name schools having one loss, and seeing them loss big $, it would change. Man, having a playoff would be sweet, OU vs USC, UT vs Alabama, man it would be awesome to see these games...even in bowl games I'm unimpressed.

I hope it changes, the talking heads spin way to much for me, at times I believe our politicians are envious of the BCS spin Meister's.

8. Year in and Year Out
The conference absorbs its teams that suck. Georgia gave up six passing touchdowns away from home last week and still kicked ass (in a conference game.) If not the SEC, which conference is the toughest?

6. Ole Miss was overrated and untested
I am not that surprised that they lost. I am a bit surprised that they lost to South Carolina. Guess the Old Ball Coach still has some tricks up his sleeves after all.

25. What's the evidence that Ole Miss was one of the 5 best teams in the country?
These early-season polls are based on so little data. We should expect a lot of situations where supposed top-5 teams lose to supposedly average teams.

Next up will probably be Penn State. I don't know how you conclude from their games so far that they're the 4th-best team in football.

26. Agreed, in the current system
I have no idea why they are ranked so high, other than somebody important thought they were. I like the idea of waiting until the 4th or 5th game before polls come out.

Many pundits were predicting them to win the SEC West. It just demonstrates the low level of the bar into entry of punditry.
