ESPN is reporting - it seems to be health and family related.

4. IMHO it's a seious health issue
He's had a brain cyst in the past, and he hospitalized himself the day after this years SEC Championship Game.

I hope he's okay.

But it feels to me like he's not.

Prayers his way/

5. Local news reporting he has a "faulty" heart valve.
And because of it, stress is a major issue with his future health.

6. Ok, I'm not saying it isn't true
And I am also not saying this as a Gator hater. I am really trying to look at this as objectively as possible, but I am having a difficult time believing that this is only due to health reasons. First they tell us it was dehydration as the reason for his hospital visit after the SEC game, now they are saying it could be related to a heart condition. Those are two entirely different things. I think it is something related to the 20-something arrests players were involved in. If it is health reasons, I wish him well in his future endeavors, but I am more inclined to believe right now that there is something more to this story. A high-profile coach like Urban Meyer doesn't have health problems without ANYONE in the media knowing about it.

7. As a Tide fan, I'm not usually one to defend the Gators...
But I've been hearing rumors about Meyer's health for at least a year, and it seems more like two.

9. Yes as a 'Canes fan I agree with you
But I like to think I keep up with ESPN pretty regularly but I haven't seen so much as a sidebar article on their front page. All my Gator friends are very surprised to hear the news and mention THEY haven't heard anything. I do wish Meyer a quick recovery though, it is a shame when someone so young has to step down because of health reasons.

8. ESPN Isn't Just Reporting
They're obsessing!

Geez, at this rate when John Wooden dies, they'll be 24hours of nothing but Wizard reporting for 10 days.

Meyer may have been a good coach, but come on!

ESPN News, last night, ran 20 minutes of each half hour on Meyer. Two thirds of a broadcast on a minor league football coach.

Sheesh.

12. His turnabout makes me think, yeah, Urban Liar really is an appropriate
name...the whole thing smacks of, oh, I don't know, duplicity or stupidity.

13. No it smacks of him being used by the University
for monetary reasons. The man has health issues and stress issues. If I was his family I'd be fucking pissed off at the University which obviously cares more about winning than the health of its employees.

14. from what I've read
His family was the last to find out he wasn't actually quitting. I can't decide if he wanted to quit and was talked out of it, or if he wanted to stay but was talked into quitting (by doctors, family, etc.).

15. Perhaps the University "found out" he was doing something he was not supposed to be doing
and is offering him the opportunity to "step-down" due to medical reasons.

Toss-up, if you ask me.
