1. I'm making my annual pilgrimage to the Florida Derby this year...
Edited on Tue Feb-09-10 10:41 AM by trumad
March 20th to be exact.

Time to start early handicapping for the race.

I think this year I'm going to get some help from the Horse racing buffs here at DU and bet some suggested numbers.

The Fountain of Youth on the 20th should be a nice start to early handicapping....

5. Thank you...
I'm waiting for a reply from the HOF about nominating him, again. It is a travesty that the only living TC winning trainer is not in the HOF.

Training Seattle Slew to win the TC and be unbeaten before the race should be enough to get anyone in the HOF.

7. Buddy's Saint is my top pick right now too.

We have discussions at the barn all the time about the good youngsters and I am in the
minority about Buddy. He hasn't beaten much yet but when he wins he does it with such
ease. Very professional and extremely talented.

Thanks for plugging the Elect Billy Turner to Horse Racing Hall of Fame idea.
I really appreciate it.

8. I haven't seen any colts I like very much yet....
except Lookin' At Lucky and I don't really like him much for the Derby. Dutrow had a 2YO last year that caught my eye but his name escapes me now.

I'm glad you are onboard with the Billy Turner HOF thing. I don't know if we can make a difference. I'm just gonna try. It's fun and I hope Bill realizes that he is appreciated by the fans.

9. Like I said above...
The Fountain of Youth stakes gives a pretty good barometer for the Florida Derby.... so those two races help me immensely for KY Derby handicapping.

I was a bit surprised to learn that 21 Florida Derby winners have won the KY Derby---That ain't bad.

I'm a homer so I usually lean with the FL Derby winner in the big race.

10. The FOY and the FL Derby are good barometers....
in the last few years you have to think about those horses that come out of Oaklawn Park too.

Good luck, trumad, and thanks again for joining our Facebook group.

11. I'm with you on the Derby prospects....
I can't really get a pulse yet on them, but personally I'm very wary of the Cali horses now. I feel like I've been burned after buying their hype a couple years in a row. It'll all sort itself out soon enough, though. And nice work setting up the Billy Turner HOF page, man. That is a good cause. ;)

12. Thanks aaronbees....
I agree about the west coasters. Although your Derby horse last year was very good.

The Billy Turner HOF group needs some media people to get involved and so far Haskin, Byk etc. are ignoring me. The HOF is not answering my e-mails. LOL. I hope they hurry up and realize I am not going away anytime soon.

13. The hall of fame is not answering anything.

I am convinced they don't actually come in to work till Spring.

No one there answers the phone or email.

On their website they say the public gets one vote in each category, but there is no
information about how or when someone can get a ballot.

Edited on Thu Feb-11-10 02:04 PM by two gun sid
in the winter time. I'm gonna keep requesting info on making a nomination. I'd like to see a list of the people on the nominating committee, too. Mr. Turner was one of the finalists a couple of years ago so he may already be nominated according to the rules but I want them to know that the fans would like to make sure he is inducted into the Hall.

I would like to invite everybody here to join the Facebook group 'Elect Billy Turner to the Horse Racing Hall of Fame'. Any help would be appreciated.

Peace and Love

14. A "colt" named Buddy's Saint? Now that is bizarre!
For me, the name "Buddy" plus the word "Saint" equals longtime New Orleans sportscaster "Buddy D" Diliberto, who was the original "baghead" and also famously promised to wear a dress if his beloved Saints ever reached the Super Bowl. Sadly, he died several years before last Sunday.

And who did they beat to win it all? Why, the Colts, of course! :tinfoilhat:
