That was a heck of an open net goal at the end
What an individual effort to somehow maneuver around the Canadian defender and one arm it in. The most exciting empty netter is when the goalie gets it, but this one has to rank right up there.

1. That was better than a goalie scoring...
It's gotta be one of the best empty net goals ever! I seriously thought it was going to be a penalty, if anything; I never thought Kessler would be able to get his stick to it first, let alone direct it to the net.

3. The "pulling the goalie" strategy needs to be refined...
The prevailing strategy is to pull the goalie, whether having him skate to the bench midplay, or after a whistle, aroud the 1:30 mark. This was fine 20-30 years ago. Players are too fast now and the speed has increased five fold.

If I was coach:

ONLY pull that goalie in an offensive zone face-off with 30 seconds or less left.

I hate seeing a game end on an empty net goal - and it seems to happen more often now.

Having said that, hell of an effort by that US player...

Corry Perry, the Canadian in the play, should be benched for the next game. Send a message that such carelessness cannot go unnoticed. Canadian Team has nothing to lose now.

"Own the podium"? Canada's Game?

Meh.
