1. They shouldn't count any games they won with Danny Manning
Yes, I'm still bitter.

3. Shouldn't count the games against schools that refused to recruit African-Americans
Subtract a few hundred from that victory total.

4. That reply shows your ignorance
Kentucky has had black players for over 40 years, most Division 1 schools were segregated early on. FYI Kentucky is the ONLY state where all Division 1 football teams have black head coaches. Let me guess, you saw one historically inaccurate movie and got your info, right?

5. How long has Kentucky been playing basketball? 100 + years?
So it was ok for the other 60 years?

The Civil Rights Act was passed 46 years ago.

So, Kentucky spent a couple years deciding whether or not to obey the law.

Hippity Hoppity hooray for Kentucky.

ps: Haven't seen the movie you're apparently referring to.

pps: The only thing proved by Kentucky having all Division I teams coached by African-Americans
is that there aren't many Division I schools in Kentucky, another thing to be proud of.

7. What a display of ignorance
The civil rights act had no provisions in it requiring recruitment of black players. Rupp was scared to take them on the road in the SEC. On June 9 1969 Rupp signed Tom Payne from Louisville as UK's first black player. Since then UK has won a 1000 games. Funny that Lexington was called the Athens of the west, with the founding of Transylvania in 1790, the 16th college in America. There are 8 state universities and 50 more schools of higher learning. We are used to ignorant & jealous hatred.

8. Charlotte was once called the Paris of the Piedmont
Edited on Thu Mar-11-10 08:28 PM by taterguy
That doesn't make it so.

Is fear a valid reason to not do the right thing?

Just a philosophical question.

9. Lexington is not Charlotte
Which is in a state that left the union to defend slavery. Kentucky did not. Rupp was concerned about player safety. The ACC, Maryland, signed the first black player in 1965. UK tried to sign to sign Perry Wallace in 1966 but he went to Vanderbilt. The next two years Rupp tried to recruit 4 other black players who got away. Why don't you find something that you know about before you post stupid shit?...... Just a straight up question.

And I won't imply that you might be a little less than enlightened.

Fair enough?

20. Flamer
I posted to talk about basketball. Sure there were lots of problems in the south that have been largely overcome. I have posted this quote several times," Racism is the tool that keeps them on the top and us on the bottom". You seem to want to stir up shit about an innocuous post on a sports forum. Your profile shows that you are from N. Carolina. Tobacco road has a history of slavery & prejudice that hopefully has been overcome. I don't think you are old enough to know what I know. Now I never mentioned it before but why would you penalize a team that had penalized itself by not recruiting some of the remarkable black athletes of that time. Our Kansas fans know and remember some of their fantastic black athletes and the advantage that gave the Jayhawks. You want to keep this racist shit going without recognizing how things have changed. I live in Lexington which is a fucking oasis of blue in our largely red state. I think you need to evolve. Good luck with that. Everybody can grow.EOM

22. The point of my post that started this is that a lot of KUs wins aren't legit
They were against teams that refused to put the best players on the court, simply because of skin color.

I know plenty about college basketball.

And I know that it's wrong to celebrate racism, but I guess you're just to true to your school to see that.

12. Kentucky would have joined the Confederacy...
if it hadn't been infested by Union troops at the beginning of the war.

Don't get this War Between the States (or War for Southern Independence) history buff mad.

Kentucky had a shadow government that was recognized by the Confederacy. Kentucky had troops that served on both sides during the war. Lincoln never freed the slaves in Kentucky or the other border states because he was either a hypocrite or he didn't have the authority - take your choice.

6. They shouldn't count the 1986 NCAA tournament "win" against MSU either..
Edited on Thu Mar-11-10 06:56 PM by Upton
the game in which the Kemper Arena scorekeeper "accidentally" failed to start the clock... Giving the cheaters, er, Jayhawks time to send the game to OT, which Kansas won.

In fact, since Kansas shouldn't have won that game....any subsequent wins in the 1986 tounament should be voided as well..
