Drosselmeyer won? A horse named for a character in The Nutcracker?

I bet on First Dude to win. Then I found out that Sarah Palin named him - after her husband. So I hurried to the window and put even more money down on Dave in Dixie to place. Too late. I was already jinxed.

Yes, I went to the track today. It's just six miles from where I live out in Kansas. It's the only one in Colorado now. I haven't been there in about 20 years. I did OK on the races, but my wife cleaned up on the last thoroughbred race at 10-1.

i.e. the Preakness. If the Derby winner wins the Preakness, all eyes turn to the Belmont, these days mostly to watch the Triple Crown contender barf both his lungs up on the back stretch. :grr:

But in a year like this, when the Derby winner fails at the Preakness, the Belmont becomes about as exciting as a late-season matchup between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Natinals. :eyes:
