When the SW Conference dissolved in 1996, the Big 8 thought we would do the Texas teams a favor by taking them in. When we did, they immediately started demanding concessions, treating the rest of the conference like they were doing us a favor. They wanted an unfair amount of revenue sharing, they wanted a championship game in football, they wanted an inordinate amount of championship games, tourneys and series played in Dallas, ignoring the fact that this put the northern schools at a disadvantage.
This relationship has become so adverse that first Colorado, and now Nebraska (Nebraska!) have fled the conference. Worse yet, the Texas teams are mulling another way of sabotaging the conference, namely leaving the conference altogether, essentially pulling the rug out from under the rest of the schools in the conference and leaving all of us high and dry.
Frankly at this point my opinion is fuck 'em. I was never a fan of the Texas teams coming into the conference and the way they have treated the Big XII like it was their own personal cash cow is a travesty. The trouble is, if they go, the whole conference goes.
So hey, Texas, Tech, A&M, Baylor, a hearty FUCK YOU for taking a once proud conference and ruining it for everybody, simply because you were greedy and arrogant assholes.
