Toney's fight called No Contest over positive Test
What a moron!

Yahoo Sports

John Ruiz lost his piece of the heavyweight title in the ring when he was beaten by James Toney. Now he will likely get it back after Toney tested positive for steroids after the April 30 fight at Madison Square Garden.

Assuming the World Boxing Association follows its regulations and reinstates Ruiz, he will have gone from a retired former champion to the WBA title holder in a matter of only a few days......

2. Even before reading the article
I assumed that it was most likely related to his injury, rather than to enhance his performance in the ring. I am concerned that it has more to do with keeping control of the "championship." John Ruiz is kept at the top for reasons other than his boxing skills. Toney, on the other hand, has crossed numerous promoters in his career. I would put Toney at the bottom of the list of athletes who would be likely to try to cheat with steroids. His personality is not such that he is going to count on anything but his own tough self to compete.

3. I agree with you......
I say he's a moron because when you're taking medications in the boxing world, it's common knowledge to check with the federation to make sure that the meds that you're taking are not going to cause you problems later. If nothing else, his trainer should have at least looked into it.

4. Yes, for sure
they should have. Do not rule out the possibility that they did. The commission in question is never to be believed. However, it is possible that the trainers did not realize that whatever he had taken post-surgery would show up now. Some things stay in your body much longer than others.
