SEC football -Ole Miss Coach Nutt signs Masoli from Oregon
Ex-Oregon QB Jeremiah Masoli gets a second chance at Mississippi

http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/sec/2010-08-02-masoli-mississippi_N.htm

OXFORD — Jeremiah Masoli says he will play football for the University of Mississippi this fall, as the Rebels appear poised to take a chance on a talented quarterback whose career has been marred by recent off-the-field issues.
"I am very excited about this opportunity and very thankful Ole Miss is giving me this chance," Masoli wrote on his personal website. "I really want to thank Coach (Houston) Nutt for believing in me."

He has applied to enter the Parks and Recreation graduate program at Ole Miss, but hasn't been accepted as of Sunday evening. The NCAA also has to waive a one-year residency requirement, which is usually granted if the athlete chooses a graduate program not offered at his previous school.

He is expected to join the Rebels as a walk-on because there is not a scholarship currently available.

But there's a reason he was looking for a new home to use his final year of eligibility: He was kicked off Oregon's team in June after two run-ins with police.

The first was in March, when he pleaded guilty to a second-degree burglary charge after an incident that included stolen laptops from a fraternity house in Eugene, Ore. Then in June, he was cited for driving with a suspended license and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

1. Moving to Mississippi will be enough punishment.
If you kill somebody you have to transfer to Starkville.

2. Oxford is not a bad place
and Memphis is only an hour away. It remains to be seen if this guy can keep his nose clean and contribute. Ole Miss was desperate for a QB, the only others they had on their roster were a JC transfer and a redshirt sophomore who's thrown 23 passes in his career.

3. Think Jevan Snead wishes he were back at Oxford for this season?
Apply for the draft because you think you're NFL ready and then sit through 7 rounds to find out no one really wants you bad enough to waste a draft pick on you. That had to be a little tough on the ego.
