Welcome to Tucson, Hawkeyes
It's a cool 101 deg F

If you get thirsty, the native Jalepeno is what you need to
quench you thirst;

Please enter the Cactus Hugging contest.

And don't forget, it's a dry 103 deg

Bear Down, Arizona!

1. Arizona hasn't played anyone tough so far
Edited on Fri Sep-17-10 06:09 PM by Upton
Toledo and The Citadel (gee, sounds like a Big Ten member's early schedule), so who knows how good they really are. However, I have confidence they will do the Pac-10 proud and teach the Hawkeyes a lesson.

2. Because of our past history out west, I went with Arizona.
I do believe it will be close and tense like last year's Michigan State game. We have a table reserved at the Sports Column in downtown IC so I expect a very late night. Haven't seen 2:00 AM in a long, long time. You attending, Ptah?

4. No, I was unemployed when the tickets went on sale.
I like seeing strong teams in Tucson.

It's going to be a classic football game.

Bear Down Arizona!

5. Best of luck, Ptah.

I understand Tucson is quite psyched for this particular athletic contest. I'd love to see it come down to the final play, with the lads just knocking the shit out of each other....well, on second thought. Not really. It's going to be a wild one. Enjoy!!

7. Hawks have a bunch of midwestern boys...
They're probably more scared of peppers and cacti then they are throwing a damned solid block. That said, kick-off is past their bedtime and the heat that they're used to is humid as shit. Dehydration could be a big factor and if your Wildcats have an effective passing strategy, it could be a very, very long night. I'm looking forward to one hell of game. Tough match.

12. When we missed that PAT, Ptah, I thought we were in trouble.
28-27 is a totally different mindset than a tie. I thought OT at best, 30-27 AZ at worst. Got to hand it to you. You shoved the ball up our asses and then kicked the shit out of our OL. Somehow, we have to regroup. I'll be honest. At this point I see 3 to 4 more losses for Iowa. Hope I'm wrong. Oregon looks like your toughest competition. And they may run the table. Good luck!! BTW. I can guarantee you this. We'll NEVER head west again under Ferentz.

13. Why won't Ferentz head west again?
Edited on Sun Sep-19-10 10:37 AM by Upton
Please don't tell me it's just because of one loss. I don't know, one thing that turns me off about college football is the way the larger teams manipulate their schedules in order to look good for the pollsters. They all do it, some worse than others. You don't get that kind of crap in the NFL.

Edit: I get it now. I was just reading that with this loss, Iowa has not won a regular season matchup in either the Mountain or Pacific time zone in 23 years. My, that's a humbling stat.

14. There's a little more to it than that, Upton.
Ferentz likes to play non-conference games where he can recruit. We get nothing out of AZ or CA. Nothing. What's Arizona made up of? Well over 50% of their team is from California. Iowa..well the bulk is from Iowa. That being said, I believe you have to live up to the challenges. Last night was one. Iowa didn't live up to it. Now, then. If you want to talk a little more about the PAC-10, I'm game. Aside from two teams, the league sucks.

15. The Pac-10 "sucks"..oh really?
Edited on Sun Sep-19-10 11:21 AM by Upton
The AP Top 25 has 5 Pac-10 teams, same amount as the Big Ten. Lets take a look:

#5 Oregon
#18 USC
#19 Stanford (hung 68 on Wake Forest last night)
#24 Arizona (you know all about them now)
#25 OSU

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/ncaa/polls/ap/

In my mind, the only major disappointment coming out of the Pac-10 so far has been UW.

16. Oh. We're not talking about Cal?
USC struggled with the WORST team in the Big Ten. Struggled under the coaching genius, Lane Kiffin. Stanford (hung 68 on Wake Forest). Who????
Oregon State. Our last hope for Boise. Barely got by a sub-par Louisville. Sorry, Upton. Oregon, Arizona and maybe Stanford. The rest is a joke.
I'm truly surprised your here today, after Washington's pathetic performance. I'll give you that.

17. Okay..I forgot about Cal
but after what happened Friday night they've become forgettable.. And I'm not sure what's wrong with UW. They don't have much in the way of a defense, but I expected them to be bowl eligible this year. They still might, possibly the game was an anomaly, Nebraska just looks tough..

And speaking of sub par performances, #11 Wisconsin needed a blocked PAT in order to hold off an unranked ASU at home...Perhaps Wisconsin is a touch overrated, certainly not the first Big Ten school to be so, or maybe the Sun Devils are better than some may think. Could there be a 6th Pac-10 team headed for the top 25?

Oh, and regarding OSU, bring Boise or TCU to Corvallis and there would likely be a different story. As is, I don't expect them to win on that blue field..

My point is that both the Pac-10 and Big Ten have 5 teams currently ranked, and all of the Pac-10's five will no doubt move up when the new polls are released. The conference currently rates very favorably when compared to the Big Ten...there's really no other way to look at it.

18. Oops. Looks like six (6) Big Ten teams in the Top 25.
Along with the SEC. http://espn.go.com/college-football/rankings/_/poll/1 And, no, Upton. All the PAC-10 teams didn't move up. And OSU's days are numbered. When is that OSU-Boise tilt??
