Congratulations to Troy Smith

First black QB to start for the San Francisco 49ers in a non-strike year -- and he won, on the road, in another country.

I think he played with a lot of confidence and poise and made only one glaring (make that huge) mistake that, fortunately, resulted in a near touchdown instead of an interception.

Let's see what he's really made of -- give him two more weeks of practice with the first team and set him loose against the Rams.

1. It will be interesting to see who starts when Alex gets healthy.

I'm assuming Alex isn't going to be re-signed, so it might make sense to let Troy play out the year, even if I do think Alex is the better QB. They've already played the toughest part of the schedule, and still have 5 division games left. Troy's stat line didn't look all that different from Alex's usual numbers other than no ints (although yeah that duck should have been a pick).

4. 1 wasn't exactly his fault

the one with 2:10 left down by 3 inside the 20 was most definitely his fault. AZ still has a chance to tie or win the game.
