Sources: Titans claim Randy Moss

The Tennessee Titans have claimed former Minnesota Vikings recevier Randy Moss, sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

If Moss does not report to the Titans, Tennessee will send him a "5-day" letter and at the end of that five days, they have the right to put him on the Reserve/Left Squad list. He would be out for the remainder of the season once the club takes that action. Moss' status for next year would be determined by terms of the new collective bargaining agreement.

Keep him away from the microphones and pay the fines if necessary. Talking to reporters is only going to cause trouble.

The real idiots in the deal are the Vikings. A third round pick for four weeks of subpar work (not to mention the salary)? The Vikings lost the season when they did their pilgrimage to Mississippi to pray at the feet of the Favre idol. They should have spent their time trying to get a decent QB. The coach is toast.

Moss sure hasn't done himself any favors so far, in that regard. I think your bipolar diagnosis is spot on, but I don't know about the autism; it seems a stretch, and isn't often seen in high performing athletes.

Unless those teams below the Titans in the pick order knew he was off the board, that is one heck of an indictment of Randy Moss. It is like the smart money at the track - these coaches are not listening to reporters - they must be calling their contacts in Minnesota and New England and drawing the conclusion that Moss is not worth the salary and a roster spot. If you are Moss, what are you thinking? If he has half a brain, he should be scared (unless he has been a smart squirrel and stored away lots of nuts) because the big paydays are coming to an end. The Titans are not the best spot for him - they have their problems (one of them being lack of receivers). If Randy does not have another top notch receiver in the corps, they are just going to blanket him and shut him down. I am not convinced that Vince Young will get the ball down the field to him as well. At least he is going to a well coached serious franchise.

As dysfunctional as Randy is, I haven't heard any stories of him being particularly foolish with his money. I think he's probably set up OK. In fact, I'm half surprised he doesn't just walk away from the game. It's hard to figure out what motivates him at this point. If it was just about winning a title, he would have stayed in New England. I suspect it's about respect and a desire to prove his critics wrong. Of course he has a strange way of going about it.

I wonder if there was some collusion amongst the teams. The list of places/coaches that could have taken him on was pretty short, IMO. The theory is that the beneficiary on the Titans will be Chris James, as Randy stretches the field. I agree that Vince probably won't be able to take full advantage of him.

The rush to buy new Santana jerseys and of course the Moss #81 jerseys. Plus, the promotional ads pretty much write themselves: "Come to FedEx Field to see McNabb throw to the Moss boys!!"

The obvious weakness of the offense is the interior of the offensive line, particularly Cory Lichtensteiger and Casey Rabach. Rabach's been getting pushed into his own backfield for years, and the Redskins refuse to upgrade. The loss to Detroit is directly attributable to the poor play at guard and center.
